30 year old photo - Rookie, w. baby Lindsay

Rookie loved Lindsay and was always there protecting her. I can't imagine ever worrying about how Rookie would react to the birth of Lindsay, our first baby. I also can't imagine keeping them apart. Prior to our babies, Rookie was always with me. No matter how late I'd be up working, he'd be right there with his regal head on my foot. He was incensed when we came home with a new Corgi, Maggie. Maggie was 14 wks. and Rookie was 6 mo. He tried every which way to keep from entering a room. When she persevered, he pushed her into our pool. Eventually they became inseparable best friends. But, Maggie never was devoted to the babies like Rookie. Maybe Rookie just kept them to himself.

How do I ever get over losing my best friend? I had to make the awful decision to send her over The Bridge on Oct 10 2011. Still to this day I cry over losing her. I do have a new puppy coming Feb…Continue

Luna & Twinkie are doing great! Luna will be turning a year old in a few weeks and is working on getting certified as a therapy dog. She's healthy as can be. Twinkie has been with us for a month and a half now and has already lost 1 pound, had her teeth cleaned, and her fur is growing in nicely. I took them to the beach this last weekend and it appears that Twinkie loves to swim so I know that they are enjoying life.

@Krystle - I know that I still miss all my corgis but I'm so grateful for the 2 I've got. I'm so glad you've got Luna and Twinkie. How are they doing?

Today is the one-year anniversary of River's death. I got a cake for Luna & Twinkie to honor the day.

So, sad to hear of your loss - I had a corgi (Kristi) who only lived to be 6 due to Liver cancer.  So, hard to lose our little friends anyway and especially at such a young age.  It's just so hard to fathom how anyone can be so mean to your little Spud.  We always plant a tree in honor of our dear furkids and then we call it the "Barney tree", "Kristi tree", etc.   It does help just a tiny bit.   Take care of yourself and your new little Tator Tot! We are all thinking of you!

Mindy, I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost a corgi at a young age (Otto was 7) and you don't expect them to be gone so soon. It hurts so much sometimes your heart aches, and you feel you can't catch your breath. About 9 months after we lost Otto, we got Gunner and Gracie. It never has replaced Otto, but it eased some of the pain, like Denise said it was like some of Otto's soul landed in our 2 pups. Gracie has the comedy of Otto, and Gunner has the love of playing hockey with my husband and son, just like Otto. I love the names of your dogs by the way.. hugs from me and sloppy kisses from my babies!

Mindy,  So sorry for your loss! In time hopefully you will remember the good times.

One of these days, People that are mean to animals, it will happen to them as well.  I know your heart aches so bad. It seems to me, once I have lost a corgi (or another animal), the next one I get seems to have a little of the one I just lost.  Maybe part of their soul? Sorry for your loss.

How awful to think that someone might have poisoned Spud. How sad for you to get him through his disk pain only to lose him in such an awful way. I've learned too that another Corgi is the best medicine for healing a hole in your heart. Enjoy your Tator Tot. Very cute Corgi names.

I had to put my corgi, Spud, down on Valentine's Day of this year. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. In November we had found that he had calcified disks in his back, so he was put on pain meds; which were working. Then two week sbefore I had to put him down, he was acting right. He stopped eating and all he would do was drink water. It hurt me to see him like that. We believe that someone had poisoned him. He would've been 6 on March 9. I miss him so much everyday since I put him down. Having his ashes just isn't the same. I have another corgi now, Tator Tot. He helped fill that hole in my heart after Spud was put down. I will never forget him and how happy he always made me feel when I would walk in the door. I miss you buddy. Hope you're enjoying the beautiful green grass up there. I love you always and forever Spud.

Today would have been River's first birthday.  I will be spending the day with my current corgi, Luna, remembering my sweet ray of sunshine that River was.  I think of her often, but am so grateful that Luna is in my life now.  Had what happened to River not have happened - I wouldn't have Luna.

I hope you are enjoying frolicking in the green fields at the base of the Rainbow Bridge, baby girl.  I miss you.
