Did I say we were in RAE?...I wish. :) We're competing in RE-A...Meaning Rally Excellent A (which only means that we (Oliver and I) are newbies to this whole competition thing. We've got no legs in Excellent. We've never even competed at that level. Our first time will be the Saturday before Lakeshore. How bad could it be? :) Watch this.
Regarding the run thru...worth it because the trial is held in a carpeted multi-purpose room that is often used as a dining room. :) Oh the smells... :^)
As far as what to wear, I usually trial in nice jeans, shirt and clean sneakers (you don't want to slip). I've seen khakis, but nothing like the suits and dresses that are worn in the conformation rind. Hope that helps.
Anne, I just filled out my entry and saw the RAE is the highest class...CONTRATS TO OLIVER & YOU on getting that far :)
Anne,
This probably seems like an insignificant question........but How to folks dress at the obedienc and rally competitions? I was planning to wear nice jeans & nice shirt. I keep seeing pics of ladies in suit/skirts & men in suits? Do people really dress that way?
Hi Anne,
Yes, I did notice the $5 run thrus. Is it really worth the 1hr drive? We're doing run thrus where we train & I'll start doing run thrus at a nearby location for a "change of atmosphere". I'm going to start in my backyard & the park also. My dog KNOWS everything, but it'll be interesting to see if he CHOOSES to do it all. He's 14 mos now and sometimes doesn't want to listen....he's about 85%
Having never done obedience, I have to admit that I find the idea of not being able to "chat up" Oliver a bit intimidating...my boy has focus issues...we're working on that, at least I am. :)
I'll be on the look out for you and Sonny. My real name's Anne, BTW. :) Did you notice that the Lakeshore show offers 5 minutes in the "ring" for $5 on Thursday night? It's listed in the Premium. If you can make it, do it. It is so worth it.
PS....your Oliver is VERY cute :) and seems like he and your cat are best friends
Yes, that's the one. I'm hoping that all Corgi owners are as nice as the ones I met at the picnic. It'll be fun to see so many corgi's again all in one place. We go over all of the Pre-Novice stuff in class every week and are now doing run-throughs, so at least we'll be prepared. But NO treats for the real thing and NO talking in the obedience part........those seem like the real challanges.
Relax and have fun. (Easier said than done some times, I know.) By any chance is your trial in Oct. the Lakeshore PWCC show? If so, Oliver and I might see you there. He'll be in RE-A. It will be amusing to say the least.
Hello Rally people/dogs !
My dog Sonny and I are entering our first trials in Oct & Nov.
The Oct trial is Pembroke Corgis only and the Nov is All-Breed.
We are going to enter the obedience and rally trial at both venues, and both at the most entry leval spots (Nov A & Pre-Novice)
Any suggestions?
Carolyn & Sonny
