yes cindy , think they have been in cahoots! What show this weekend?? You tell repete Spunky doesnt like the consequences of blowing his lovely coat and looking like something cat dragged in!! Now getting mackeral in rations and he doesnt like it!! He has even lost most of pants.... ARRGGGG hoping to get some coat back before Lake Elmo. They are all doing well with the food switch to Taste of the wild. Spunky is the most persnickety and he is finally eating...I think owever, I will continue mackeral for others and go back to fish oil and vit e caps for Spunk as he refuses his food with mackeral in it..
oh and all this talk about furminator for shedding... DOnt ! I saw a gal at dogpark with a corgi she furminated... she may as well have had him clipped!!! Holy cow I think those tools actually CUT the coat!!

Has Spunky been secretly talking to Pete? There seems to be a theme occuring around here with dogs going NAKED right before a show.

Now granted Pete's never blown her puppy coat but now is not the time! I'm seriously thinking about donating my entry to the club and staying home this next weekend--naked and skinny puppy just isn't a pretty sight. Only a dog major so I'm not breaking anything. Then again, the one judge this weekend gave me everything 3 years ago with a tall skinny naked Moose and his co-hort in crime at the time, I ended up with BOW, WB, WD, and RWB for majors:0)

One of your best options is to talk to the breeder who you got your dog from. Ask them to help you--if they are near by. Go to shows with them, be a "bucket bitch" aka gopher, dog holder and carrier of necessary things, for them for a few shows to get the hang of stuff and the way a show runs. If the breeder isn't near, ask them if they have anyone who they might suggest you contact that would be willing to let you tag along.

In all honesty, go with out your dog and help out ring side a few times first so you understand how things work.

Once you've got someone to go to the shows with, enter a show with their help and go! Don't expect much other then having fun and learning. Winning is always a bonus and surprise!

Work on focus exercises and taking your dog to lots of different places with noises, doors, different flooring, kids running, things being thrown and dogs of all sizes, shapes and personalities. Fun matches are awesome--go to the AKC website and the events search page to find them or to Infodog.com has listings also.

The most important things to work on are gaiting at the proper place with your dog on a loose lead, stacking on the floor, free baiting, table stacking and having strangers look at your dogs bite.

And remember to have fun. If you go and don't enjoy it, as with any activity, why bother?

This weekend at Waukesha Kennel Club I took Fiona (Tartanwyn's Princess Fiona) and she got reserve Winners Sat and Winner and Best of Winners on Sunday! Congratulations to Picasso for getting breed and Lydia for going Best of Opposite.

Go to the AKC website and do a search for your state. Go to a local show and watch what they do in the pembroke ring. Most shows you enter your dog through Jack ONofrio, Roy Jones, or MB-F (Info Dog) . Go to those sites when you think you have a handle on what happens in the ring and enter your corgi into a show. Then you show up to the show. Make sure that you bath your dog before you show. You will need a show collar but you can buy one at one of the shows you go to before you show your dog. Bring some good treat that your corgi loves to bait them. Practice putting your corgi on a table and staking him square and practice baiting your corgi on the ground into a square stack. Then go to a show and the rest you have to learn in a ring. You can practice at a local kennel club or search for conformation classes in your area. Sometime a dog daycare may have classes or a local dog club.
Hope this helps! If you need more help I can see if I know someone in your area that can help mentor you. What area do you live in?

Hello,
I just started on here and I have a pwc I would love to show but I'm having a hard time starting out. Does anyone have any tips or can anyone tell me about how they started out? I've tried to contact the nearest kennel Club ( Savannah Kennel Club) with no luck and their next meeting isn't until November. I have him trained well but I don't know where to start. A few of his siblings are already champions and I'm sure he could be too so I hate not doing anything with him.

The person to really take to is Charlie up in Canada with cardigans. He will go on and on about correct coats and blow dryers.

An open coat is an incorrect coat, period. And unfortunately a judge will reward one over a correct coat most days.

HOW cool for Sam!! WOO HOO! yeah Winddial I was gonna comment on the poof pems in the ring:((( but was afraid to "start" somethingHAHAHAHAHAHAH Glad you went there!! "Poof" was all we talked about in Duluth , for lots of the herding breeds... I watched people poof up pems and I think its ridiculous for a "natural" breed:( All for spiffing up some volume when out of coat, but it can get to be a fashion show ... all that poofing.... I like wash and wear!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH
We were even commenting on cairn terriers beig "POOFED UP"" seems strange to me , so different than it was 20 years ago...

Oh yea, I only ever use it on a wet coat and blow with a peculiar combination of directions to get it just right and also using a volumizer which seems to add some weight to assist it in laying right with some umph. Them Pembrokes I think also have a slightly different coat than the cardis. The cardi's especially since now I have one, the outer coat seems to be longer and harder and tend to lay flatter anyway. I will keep that in mind if I ever get as far to get in the ring with one. I can't say that I see Pembrokes laying quite as flat as Cardis although I know the standard calls for it. Just because thats what the standard says doesn't mean it's what you see in the ring. I even see specialing Pems that are a bit poof.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~NEWS FLASH: Sam the Frenchie just took another major today in Marion, OH, this gives him both majors and a total of 10 points and this is only Friday, 3 more days to go.
