shelley, i can feel for you. my jack is high-end standard. we showed akc. and ended up with 11points, 5 best of breeds (one over a special) but never found the majors we needed. he just turned 10 and i'm done with him in akc (although he still looks and acts like a young pup. not a grey hair on him. ) do some judge studies and talk to people and find out which judges look at the total dog. as soon as i can find the list of judges that put jack up, i will list them hear for you. just hang in there. my joker is exactly 11" tall. he is right smack dab in the middle of the standard. it's going to be interesting to see how he does. he has been in a couple of akc shows and at his first one, picked up his first point. good luck and good showing. vicky

Our male Spunky , started last summer at a show in Duluth . Just winners dog( only one) but for his first show he did great. I had no idea how he would act but he loved it. Now we just need more practice:) More time for more shows. He will have a possibly harder time as he is at the very top of the breed size standard, but so well put together. We will continue and see how he stacks up against the smaller ones

I agree that the metal dryers are the best, but if you can't afford it I've had great success with a Double K ChallengAir; it's about $180 and does a great fluff-out job at the show site. I wouldn't rely on one for professional grooming but a lot of us have them for the site and they work well.

By the way, if anyone is interested our UKC corgi club is having a Specialty Fun Match and Corgi Picnic on July 24. I have attached the flyer. :) If you would like more details or a copy of the flyer please feel free to e-mail me (Subject line: Corgi Picnic).

The best HV dryer that I have found is the Circuiteer II. For double coated dogs I ALWAYS use a 2-motor dryer. They make them for both cattle and dogs, but the cattle version is cheaper by about $100 (the only difference is that the dog one has a sticker of a dog of it instead of a cow lol). I bought mine at Nasco (which is about a half-hour drive for me), but they also sell them online: http://www.enasco.com/product/C24807NH

Oh I need a HV dryer, any suggestions on a good brand and place to get one? I have my grooming table on the way, I bought some steponz to help aid us with foot placement. I have flee combs slicker pin brushes and a few other odds and end brushes, thank you again for all your help!

Daily: Put her up on a table and stack her. The number one skill she needs is a stand-stay on the table, honestly; the stay should be with ears up and weight forward so she looks eager and happy. Make sure to check her bite every day so she's used to people's hands in her mouth.

Get her out to see as many new people as possible every single day. The happier she is with new people the better she'll show for you.

Daily - practice with a show lead attached to a bunch of keys; draw it up in your hand and let it out until you can do so without making the keys jingle even a tiny bit.

Weekly: Bath and blow-out. She has to get used to the grooming table and the HV dryer so neither one stresses her out on show days.

Also weekly should be a handling class, though it looks like you've got that set.

As she learns how to figure out where her front and back ends are, ask her to begin to stack on the ground (a "free stack" instead of a "hand stack"). Work on teaching her how to gait just slightly ahead of you and moving straight and evenly. Work yourself on sighting a line twenty feet away and moving down it STRAIGHT (this is so hard; I always do it badly).

A great diet and good clean skin and coat, a decent stand-stay, a happy attitude. Those are your job - the rest is up to her genetics :). Good luck and please post lots of pictures!
