A place for corgis who love to work alongside their humans either on a farm, in day to day life, or even taking care of a herd of children! A corgi with a job is a happy corgi!

My three Corgis all have an aptitude for herding. About twice a year I need help moving the chickens back and forth from their summer run to their winter pen in the barn. I usually get my Pembroke/Border Collie mix to help as she is a bit better with commands, but she doesn't have much formal training (for herding, at least) and will just get stuck on one chicken.
At the very least I can stay her and use her as a 'fence' to stop the chickens. ;) I think she'd go hog wild if we had some sheep or cows to herd. She tries with the horses, but I don't want her to get hurt. Same with my younger Cardigan/Pembroke mix, Edgar. He'll herd chickens, but I think it is a bit of a strain on the poor chicks to deal with him.I think if I had a few sheep to teach them to herd with, we'd have a great time.
My youngest, who is only a few months, 'helped' me herd the horses a few days ago. He pushed back and forth behind them, which the horses didn't care whatsoever, but it was cute to see he had the drive.
I'm just itching to get to a herding clinic, a farm, or something! I do obedience and agility with my dogs, but I think herding would be the icing on the cake for them. Nothing better than running around, getting filthy, chasing after some animals. Especially if there is a constructive reason to be chasing after them! My goal is to be able to herd the chickens out into a pasture for the day, then back in at night. If I could do that with horses, that would be great, but they don't herd all that well.
The Corgis of Scott and Kathy's are awesome on Animal Planet...hope everyone watches it:)
Hello all, you can also see our corgies working on the Animal Planet website

I use Wynn to help get the chicks in. He started when the chicks were babes and all I have to say is "lets go get the chicks" I'm sure geese would be harder...
I am trying to train our corgi to help round up the geese. As you know, a goose can be quite a handful. Is anybody our there using their dogs to herd geese or other poultry?
My girl is still learning :) But I am so proud at how good she is doing! Sorry about the language this is the first time my father got to see her go do her job so he does cuss a couple of times! Just love my girl doing what she is meant to do!

The best part of my day is watching my corgi get so excited as we get ready to go out and do the farm chores. For her, everyday is a new day, and every chore is a new joy. Her unbounded enthusiasm about it all cannot help but lift the spirits. Here's to the farm corgi!
well, the sooner you introduce with a watchful eye, the better it is for both the corgi and chickens...i let mine know 'not for you'... and 'easy'...
