Some days are harder than others...

"Good Morning Sunshine!" I say to her every morning as we start to get ready for the day. Lately it has been so tough because Molly recently stopped walking. She is injured in her spine and we are saving the money to get the necessary test and x-rays ran. It breaks my heart to look into her eyes and how she wants to run and goof off like normal, but she cant. I can tell she is hiding her pain. Normally lately the only standing she does try is when she goes potty and it is a very difficult task for her lately. We are getting the bottoms up leash Thursday which hopefully will help. She just turned 10 in Sept and one of the hardest things to grasp is not knowing how she feels about the struggle she is having. I can tell she is down, and it hurts to see your baby down. Just praying that we get some help and she can be free again to move around and that she keeps her spirits high. Her spirit is amazing!

That's so funny when we shaved Riley he had that black stripe down his back too! We used to joke that it was his dark roots coming through his blond hair! My cat Kira gets jealous when I play with her sister Sadie so I know it is going to take some time for her to accept another addition to the family! Just keep me in your thoughts and prayers lol I may really need them! I read a few books about pet loss to help me get over riley (of course I still am not over him completely, I may never be) they made me cray and smile but really the book I needed to read I did not find so maybe one day I hope to write a book about Riley and what different things I did to help me cope...the only problem is time. You know how busy we can all be! Give ms Molly a hug for me!

Do you shave miss molly regularly? We shaved Riley for many summers and he seemed to really enjoy loosing some of that fur for awhile. I see from the photos you have a cat let me know if you have any tips on making them get along, I am about to get a pup and I have two cats.

You are so welcome, and yes it has been very heartbreaking to watch the difficulties that Cobi has had getting around and I know what you mean about the sad eyes when they look at you wondering what has happened and why don't my legs work anymore mom? As far as knowing that it is disk disease, Cobi had an x-ray which revealed the problem with the disks. We went to an orthorpedic surgeon and discussed surgery.... very expensive, Cob's age, his other medical conditions, more than one disk involved and the surgeon not feeling that the outcome would be very good, we decided not to do the surgery. There is another website I should have given you: corgiaid.org. They offer assistance to rescue corgis that need carts, not sure if they offer anything for corgis from breeders etc. To determined degenerative myelopathy I think all they can do is draw a blood sample and check to see if the gene is there for that. So the blood would be sent to a special lab that tests for that and I can't remember where that is. I think someone from here told me about it so I would have to look at some old posts.

Cobi has definately lost some muscle in his back legs too. Intially the vet told us to keep him quiet for 2 weeks but then once we realized what was going on she advised us to treat like normal so we actually encourage him to scoot around. He has to come to us if he wants a treat or to play etc. I would first find out if that is ok with your vet though, depending on what is causing this for Molly. Please keep me updated.

Just a couple of questions....can Molly scoot around in the house at all? Has the vet said it is hip dysplasia for sure? There is also degenerative disk disease and degenerative myleopathy (spelling). My Cobi has actually started moving his rear legs more once we got the cart. He still can't support himself enough to walk though.

Hi ....I see you and Molly joined the wheeled corgis group, welcome. Here are a few websites for the carts. My Cobi's cart is from eddieswheels.com. Others you may want to look at are: doggon.com, handicappedpets.com, k9-carts.com. We also use the bottoms-up leash to help him to go out and go potty sometimes. I have a photo and video on my page. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
