Thank you! Yeah Tri-Colors are the best, I always wanted to have a fawn colored corgi but when I saw Kipper I fell in love.
Just checking in to see if Pippin's home :).Thought Leap Year day was her coming home day.Hope all is going well.I will be watching for new pics.Take care.
Hi Carolyn and Pippin,
Marty is doing well. Every day he seems to have a little more energy. He can go through the night without having to go out to the bathroom which is great! His fur looks a bit ragged right now because he had been shedding so much. He has always had the longer hair and ruff around his neck (not like a fluffy). I hope it comes back! We have a two story home and he still doesn't want to come up the stairs to go to bed. I carried him to bed last night (had been sleeping on the couch with him). I am not sure why he doesn't want to go up the stairs. The Addison's dogs group is great! I am feeling less overwhelmed with his treatment etc but you are right the cost of this disease is significant. My vet is so expensive for everything! They want to charge me $242 for the bottle of percorten and to run just the electrolytes will be $66. Also, when I discussed decreasing Marty's dosage of predn. and percorten, my vet said the 1ml. percorten and 2.5 mg pred. will be what Marty's should have. I know that is not correct after discussing this with the moderator's on Addison's dogs. With the help of all of you who have lived with this, I know I can be Marty's best advocate. I will be checking with Petmeds and discussing getting the med.s through them with my vet. If they are unwilling, I will find one who is. I am taking this one day at a time.
Scooter was a beautiful corgi. Her personality reminds me of Marty. He is really my little shadow. We have two boys (16 and 13), Marty loves his boys and my husband but he really just wants to be wherever I am.
Thank you for helping!
Nancy and Marty
Hi Carolyn and Pippin,
Thank you so much for all the great information. It has really been a help to me to know that I am not alone, that this disease is manageable, and that Marty can still be the happy little dog that he has always been.
Marty is on Percorten, his initial dose was 1 ml. (25 mg) and his Prednisone dose is 2.5 mg daily, for now. He came home yesterday and is doing well. He still seems to be lacking energy but is not having tremors and his Na/K are normal. The Prednisone is making him need to urinate a fair amount. He actually had to go out in the middle of the night which he didn't have to do even as a puppy. He still seems tentative about going up and down stairs so I think he still has some muscle weakness in his back legs. I ended up sleeping downstairs on the couch with him last night because he didn't want to go upstairs to bed and didn't want me to carry him up either. With that said, I know he is feeling better because he had the energy to herd the cats around this morning (much to their dipleasure (-: ) and he did go up the stairs to wake-up my 16 yr. old son. Marty likes to get on his bed and like his face to wake him up.
I joined the AddisonsDogs forum and they are awesome! I know I will be consulting them a lot! Thank you for the details about Scooter and how she behaved the first few months. I was worried last night when Marty still seemed so tired. But he had been through so much and being away from us alone would be stressful for him.
Thank you again!
Nancy and Marty
