We are all enjoying our new house! Simon and I have moved as we are both starting our first teaching jobs (at the same school!) in a few weeks. He's teaching sixth grade and I'm doing k-12 vocal music. The dogs love our new place. This rental has all wood flooring all through the house and tile in the kitchen which is sooooo great for our dogs. I'm loving not having to vaccuum. I'm currently typing with one hand because the other is busy keeping Nellie from falling off my lap. She has been very needy the past few days and always needs a lap. She's more of a couch dog now though at almost 30 lbs. then she is a chair dog. Soooo heavy, but how can you turn her down? :)

Our puppies Nellie and Howie are generally good with each other, but NOT when it comes to meal time. Both gobble down food (we recently purchased those big silver balls to put in their dishes and slow them down), and when they finish they begin to growl at each other. This used to happen only when one puppy finished first and went for the other's food. Now it can happen even if both bowls have been picked up. They have no aggression towards us. We have the first snow of the year here in MO. Nellie seems to like it. She didn't want to come in this morning. Unfortunately Howie isn't really going to get to enjoy it today. I dropped him off this morning at the vet to get neutered. Poor little boy. When Nellie was spayed, she had a really upset tummy all through the following night. Howie seems to have a stronger stomach, so hopefully he won't have such a bad time of it tonight. I think when I go home for lunch I may find a rather lonely… Continue

Well we caved in and got Nellie a little brother to play with. We took her to choose a puppy. The breeders had only a little boy and a little girl left. We were interested to see if she liked the boy and she did! We brought Howie home Friday, and with each day passing they have become better friends. Nellie was a little freaked at first. Nellie graduated from basic obidience class on Saturday. It really was a suprise! You had to get 30 out of 40 points to pass, and she got 38! We practiced extra hard the past week. She is pretty good at all the commands, we were just concerned that she wouldn't be able to perform around all the people and doggies. She made it happen! I am so proud. It makes me want another puppy.

We had our first day of training school last Saturday and tomorrow will have the second. Nellie suprised us by acting quite nice and being one of the best! It seems that she acts better around large groups as opposed to individual newcomers. (She was awesome when we went to a parade too) She already knew sit, and watch me was no problem for her last week. Really looking forward to tomorrrow. Getting to be around all of the dogs is a lot of fun.

Who uses a doggie backpack during walks? If you do, what kind do you use, and where did you get it?

We went on our first weekend visiting trip since we got Nellie. Spent the night with friends who have a golden retriever and a lab mix. Nellie had a blast crawling all over the big dogs. It was her first time playing with dogs other than her sisters before we got her. She was a little freaked at first, but warmed up quickly. Also visited my parents and my mother in law. Today was a great day for walks. We took her to the park and just walked around on the grass. We live near the Northwest Missouri campus (which is also an arboretum) and several parks so this is going to work out well. Concrete may be too hard on her little feet for now because she had no problem today on the grass. Our new corgi puppy Nellie is very cute! We bought her on 7-8-09 which is supposed to be a lucky day and we think that is true. Last Tuesday, we took her to the vet to get her second shot and she didn't even flinch! The vet had her distratcted with treats and she didn't even notice the shot. She is about 2 1/2 months old and she is growing very quickly. She sleeps a lot but most puppies do, she is her sweetest when she is asleep.
