Our decision will be made this Sunday...

Well, I thought I'd update the Mycorgi community on our decision to get a new pup. After a long back and forth talk with the breeder, she has finally made it evidently clear that she'd really like us to take this pup. So we have decided to bring Kiwi down to her house this Sunday to meet the little guy. Sunday, we will have our decision made. I'm a little nervous, not about how Kiwi will be, b/c I'm sure she'll be great, but more about re-doing the whole puppyhood thing...sigh...but you can… Continue

Kiwi's getting a brother....

Well, Vic has finally talked me into it, we're getting Kiwi a little brother. *Sigh*, I don't know what I'm getting myself into, I'm nervous about how Kiwi will react, how much our lives will change having two of these crazy animals, but Vic has reassured me that everything will be fine...

Either way, we've emailed the breeder (about a month ago) and told her that we'd be interested in a male, tri, in early July, if at all possible. She emailed us back yesterday and told us that it's… Continue

Keeping those hot corgis cool..

With the slowly approaching spring and summer months (finally, yay!) I was wondering what measures you take to keep your corgis from overheating? Vic and I are planning a road trip down to my hometown, in Georgia, and as any of you southerners know, it's incredibly hot and humid during the summer months. What do you do to help keep your corgis cool? Do you get them a special summer "haircut" and if you do, what do you ask for when you go to the groomer? Any suggestions, or comments are always… Continue

Another one has crossed the bridge...

My parents had to put down my first dog, Hazel Nut, the Westie this morning. In November she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that had set up shop in her nasal cavity. Towards the end she was just having so much trouble breathing, especially when she slept. We knew it wouldn't be long, but for the last few months they have been spoiling her rotten (which was well deserved), I know that she knows she was well loved by everyone who met her. While, I know this isn't necessarily a… Continue

Kiwi Turns 1 Today!!!

Just wanted to say Happy Birthday to my Kiwi! I can't believe that she's already 1 year old, it seems like just yesterday we were getting the email from the breeder saying she had been born. I have a big day planned for her, of playtime at daycare, visiting her favorite pet stores and playtime with her best friend Sam, the Bernese Mt. Dog. I think tonight she might even get a special little dinner! I'm such a nerd....

Anyway, Happy Birthday Kiwi Pup!

New puppy...with a 1 year old corgi...

My husband and I have recently been talking, pretty seriously (as in he's already contacted a breeder and been put on a waiting list) about getting an Australian Shepherd puppy. He has no doubts and is ready, I on the other hand have my concerns. Kiwi will be turning 1 in February when we will also be adding this new pup to our lives. Have any of you, I'm sure many of you have, added new pups to your lives with younger ones in the picture already?

If you have, how have they adapted? What… Continue

Stinky, Stinky Breath...

Alright, Kiwi is 5 1/2 months, and she has begun to lose her puppy teeth, and as a result her breath is absolutely atrocious. I spoke to a vet tech at the veterinary hospital and she said that cutting teeth can cause bad breath in puppies. So...my question is, does anybody know of any remedies, even temporary, to help with puppy halitosis? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as we are at the mercy of our pup with the fishy breath...

Crate Digging...

So every night when Kiwi gets in her crate to go "sleepy time" (as my husband and I call it), she lays down and just starts scratching at the corners and sides of her crate. It doesn't bother us, and we always laugh b/c she sounds like she's so intent on getting somewhere, in fact, we've dubbed her the "Shawshank Dog." Anybody know what this incessant digging and scratching is about? Is it to tire them out? Or, are they really trying to get somewhere? It normally lasts between 10-15 minutes and… Continue
