I'm not the greatest at keeping up with things on here. I know it's been a really long time since I posted last. I guess Murphy and I have just been having too much fun. He will be 3 years old the day after Christmas and still as rowdy as ever. Life would be so boring without him though, he keeps us on our toes for sure. I should also mention that we are adding a new family member in the near future. Chris and I have decided to enter the world of parenthood so Murphy will be a big brother. He loves going into the baby's room and checking everything out. I can tell he will be a very big help once the baby gets here. I'm really excited to see how he reacts to her. He's such a gentle and loving dog, I wouldn't expect anything else. He does get a little rough with wanting to play though. I am just a little concerned that he will try to play with her immediately and lick her face constantly and I'm not sure she will like that so much at that age. We'll try our best at keeping Murphy involved as much as possible, but not allowing unwanted behavior. It might just be a challenge when we look at those big brown eyes. That is why he gets pretty much whatever he wants and is spoiled rotten. ;o)
We've got his Christmas and birthday presents all in his stocking. I tried to hide what I was doing when I was putting them in there, but he stopped whatever he was doing and suddenly wanted to know every detail of what was going on. He knew that they were for him of course and I tried to hide them, with my back to him and he'd try peaking around me to see. Then I hung up the stocking on the banister and he was poking it and sniffing it like crazy. Now every time he walks by he has to go and check it out. Someone must be ready for Christmas and his birthday. We're also planning on getting him groomed somewhere as a birthday gift since he's been shedding so much, we have even started brushing him more often like everyday because he needs it. It's never-ending and I feel bad for him because I think his skin might be dry too from the air. It seems to happen every year at this time. I think he would appreciate some pampering even though he has no idea what birthdays or holidays are, I think he deserves something special.

I love that story, Judith. I would be laughing so hard if I caught Murphy opening a present. I guess he'd just get that one early. :o)
The gift story reminds me of Ringer, our first Corgi. I took a sack of presents to my son's and set them on the floor and left the room. When we came back in, Ringer had dug down and found his present and opened it. It was a squeaky toy totally encased in plastic and then wrapped, but he knew..smelled? which was his. Our Corgis love opening presents. And all 6 have loved kids, even the ones who were not raised with them.
Thank you everyone for the congratulatory words and birthday wishes for Murphy! We're really excited. Teaching him the "leave it" command is a good idea. I think we're going to start that really soon, that way when she gets here it might not be so difficult to break him of the constant licking. Sheila, I'm so sorry that you lost your Kharma. She sounds like she was a wonderful girl, but at least you have lots of memories to share. In that way she'll always be with you. This will be a very new and exciting adventure for all of us and we're looking forward to it. I'll try to keep things posted more often, especially since I'll be on leave soon. I'll have extra time before she arrives to blog.
Congratulations! Now is a good time to teach the "leave it" command. My corgis have been great with the grandkids but babies are apparently very lickable and you should not allow too much of that.
Congrats!
Congratulations! As parents you always worry, but I'm confident that your Murphy will be a great watcher for your baby. Corgis are so gently when they know they need to be and they always know. We have some really funny video of me when we brought our now 11 year old baby home for the first time. We had already brought a baby blanket with her sent on it the day before so our then corgi,Kharma, could know her sent already. Me being, a first time Mom, was so nervous when we set the car seat, with our new baby in it, on the sofa beside Kharma. I was constantly guarding with my hand. Kharma stuck her nose in there a got a big whiff then she gently kissed her on the nose. It's funny when I watch it now because Kharma just knew to be gentle and she never bothered any of the baby's toys lying around. She just knew which ones where her's and left the baby's alone. Georgia(our daughter) however frequently chewed on Kharma's toys, but Kharma didn't mind that either. She just let her and sometimes would look up at me as if to say" can you get it back for me please?". We lost our Kharma just this last April and we miss her so much. She was the best baby sitter and a great playmate as our Georgia grew up and we added another little girl to our family, Grace. They all played together so well. I wish you well. Enjoy your family!
Congratulations on your soon-to-be new addition! As a mom to two young children, an Eskimo Dog and a Corgi, I can say that you're in for a lot of fun! Corgis are absolutely wonderful family dogs as long as you make it clear what is okay and not okay around baby. :)
And (early) Happy Birthday, Murphy!
Congratulations!!!!!! My Corgsi do extremely well with all of our 11 grandchildren:) They each have different roles. Wynn checks them out when they come in the door...literally sticks his nose in their car seat and watches the parents or whoever has the baby to make sure they are treating them well. The others are always nearby and do try to sneak the licks in. I would do 2 things though #1. Bring a couple hand towels or small blankets along to the hospital and take them home right away with the baby's scent on them...this way he will get their smell before the baby comes home and already knows it. #2. Set up the rules for him right away. Have a wonderful time!
Early "Happy Birthday Murphy!"
Congratulations on the baby! Murphy will be a great big brother!
