Wanted to take Ellie for her first visit to a beach and see how she liked it so went on the internet and searched for Dog Beaches in Iowa--the only one that came up was Lake Red Rock. WHAT A JOKE! We loaded up our Corgi, drove 40 miles to get there just to find out the main beach was closed for the season due to high water levels. However, we were informed there was another beach on the other side of the dam. we made the trip to the other side to find no facilities other than port-a-potties (that were filthy) and a sign that said NO PETS ALLOWED. We asked about the "dog friendly beaches" and were told we could take the dog on a leash to the non-sandy part of the beach, which means mud and rocks. You couldn't walk without shoes or you would cut up your feet--you couldn't go in with shoes because you sunk in the mud (filled with rocks) up to your ankles and couldn't pull your feet out without losing your shoes. Our Corgi was no more impressed than we were and we left within 15 minutes. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Lake Red Rock with or without the dog.
