My dear little Brodie meant it when he showed up saying he would work for food. He has definitely been earning his keep lately around here. He has been flushing out the armadillos at dawn and dusk lately quite regularly. Yesterday, however, he had a banner day! We were out walking late in the evening, just before dusk, when he spotted a rattlesnake in our yard! Bless his little heart, he knew it was not just an average every day snake, because he treated it quite different than he does most of the time. He usually will go right at them, nipping and jumping at them. But this time he knew to stay clear. Instead, he put himself between me and the snake and basically just stood guard until my husband could get out there with a hoe to kill it. The snake was coiling and hissing and shaking it's tail, but Brodie was putting himself right there where I was protected, and yet he did nothing to further provoke the snake. Needless to say, he got extra hugs and kisses when it was all over!

Comment by Chloe's parent Liz on May 30, 2012 at 2:22am Good Job Brodie. A dog in northern CA just died because it was bit. I am glad Brodie had enough sense to avoid it.
