I haven't been online much lately for multiple reasons, so I thought I'd just pop in and make a brief post. We have two houses on our property now, one of which does not have Internet (which is the main reason I have not been online much), but it is a cozy little cabin and we have been staying there a lot. I just have to say how proud I am of our two furbabies when it comes to their flexibility. We have been spending almost all of our days at the cabin and we split the nights up between the…

I know a great majority of you out there are strong believers in crate training, and I certainly don't knock it, but I wasn't sure if you really understood the true purpose of a crate. So, I thought I would share with you how Brodie uses his crate.
Now, Kadi has had her wire crate in her x-pen right from the start and she used to sleep in it religiously. We never shut her up in it, because her pen is in the basement and that gave…

Over the holidays an old high school classmate of mine was in town helping his parents move. It just so happens he has a corgi. He had posted a note on Facebook about some shelves his parents were selling and we ended up buying them, so when we went to pick them up, we took Brodie along. It was the first time I had met his corgi, Beau, and of course the first time Brodie had met him. In typical corgi fashion, they looked at each other, sniffed noses, and went about their business as if they…

Well, yesterday my little girl turned one year old. I can't believe how the time has flown! Since we don't know when Brodie's birthday is, we had a shared party for the two of them. I got online and found a good recipe for a doggy cake and baked it up ahead of time. They had that and some very yummy Schwan's vanilla yogurt on the side.…

My dear little Brodie meant it when he showed up saying he would work for food. He has definitely been earning his keep lately around here. He has been flushing out the armadillos at dawn and dusk lately quite regularly. Yesterday, however, he had a banner day! We were out walking late in the evening, just before dusk, when he spotted a rattlesnake in our yard! Bless his little heart, he knew it was not just an average every day snake, because he treated it quite different than he does most…

I just wanted to post a quick note to say that Brodie has made great progress this week with his separation anxiety issues. I checked into the Pet Naturals of Vermont comfort chews that Melissa was using on Kirby and found them at a local health food store.…

Happy Mother's Day to all the Corgi Mom's out there (and the conventional moms with human kids too! ;) ) ! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Just a little post to share that this has been a strange weekend for us. We homeschool and there was a big convention that started Thursday and went through today (Saturday) that we needed to attend. Even though it's local, we made the decision to board the dogs (all three of them) because we had to be gone such long hours. So now we're done and home and the house is sooooooooooooooo empty! We can't pick the dogs up until Monday because they don't do Sunday releases. It seems so strange not…

Yesterday we had some wonderful entertainment in our living room. It was the first time that Kadi and Brodie started FRAPping at the same time in the house. They have done it frequently outside, but so far he has been very subdued in the house. I think he's so happy now to have his Elizabethan collar off and he's finally feeling like he is really going to get to stay here always, that he is relaxing now and being his little corgi self. I lost count of how many times he pounced on Kadi, then…

I'm just going to post a short blog to say how thankful I am that God knows what He's doing and is the one in charge. I have no doubt now that Brodie showed up at our farm when he did for a reason. That reason was that God knew we needed him as much as he needed us.
Over the past two weeks, my mother (who has been living with us since my dad passed away last August) suddenly took a turn for the worse, with the onset of dementia, followed by a basically comatose state. Had Brodie not…

I should have known better. It's always the mellow ones that cause the problems.
Last night Brodie was restless after his neutering and wouldn't settle down to sleep. So, at midnight, I woke my husband up, we pulled an extra mattress down into the living room floor so I could sleep there and Brodie would sleep next to me without us having to worry about him jumping and hurting himself. Good plan, right? Wrong. It worked for about 45 minutes, then he got too hot and left me, heading…

Today was another marathon/whirlwind for us. We dropped Brodie off at the vet early this morning to be neutered (and chipped), then drove into town to play the waiting game at the hospital with my mother. As usual, it took them forever to get the paperwork in order to get her moved. We had to transport her to a skilled nursing facility to see if they can help her with her confusion there. Barely made it back to the vet in time to pick up Brodie. He is definitely not as tough as Kadi--whining…

We've had two really big breakthroughs with Brodie. Last night, my husband was able to get him to go poo while walking him. Up until now, Brodie would only do that for me! Then, this morning, when I had Brodie out to do his business before dawn (we have to rise early on the farm) we ran across THREE different rabbits and even though he saw them, I was able to give him the 'leave it' command and he just turned and went back to his business! No tugging or yanking or whining! I ended up…

I hope to never have another day like yesterday. It all started with Kadi vomiting. It went from bad to worse after that. My elderly mother, who is staying in our living room while her house is being built, woke up terribly confused, not making much sense with what she said. Kadi's vomiting increased and my mom's confusion did, as well.
Finally I decided I had no choice--I called my husband and asked him to leave work to help me with all the 'patients'. We put Brodie in the basement…

Two weeks ago today, Brodie showed up in our yard, ready to help us do chores. In that length of time, we have gone from wondering how to find his owner, to being overjoyed he chose to live with us.
On day one, he chose to stay in our yard and 'help' us with the construction on my mother's house. As my mother-in-law and I worked on clearing out a fence row of brambles, he alternated between trying to pull out the branches for us and running through the thick grass in search of…
