Every two hours? What have I gotten myself into?!?

Well, I am leaving here in a couple minutes to make the 12 hour round trip to pick up my new 8 week old puppy. It is snowing peacefully outside my window and is a complete contradiction to how I feel inside.

Confession, This will be the first puppy I will have had since my childhood. On top of that, my memory is missing anything having to do with training my first dog (which mind you I had no hand in), and is only focusing on the (now) glaring mistakes I made while caring for the little doxie. After all, I was 6 when my mother brought him to my Grandparents home and gave him to me as a way of introducing herself.

Up until this point I have been reading all the information on previous blog entries and on other websites regarding puppy training, what to expect, and what to do if something were to arise. I still feel wholly unprepared. The foster mom has been a true asset in not only giving me information on the way, but also being a great support. Cheryl Lyons has been a blessing!

So fellow corgi lovers, I ask you, what is your last minute sage advice? What is your favorite blog post or forum discussion? Any tips?

Now I leave you, I must go FRAP with Roslyn so we don't drive my husband crazy during one of the longest most exciting car rides yet!

Oh goodness! Puppies are a lot of fun and work! I haven't had much time to update (sorry about that) just having a blast with the pups! I will post an official update with pictures tonight!

Okay, I can't stand it anymore; do you have your new baby?!  Please update soon!

I think the most important thing to remember is that the puppy is a baby,  I think I sometimes expected to much from Quin when I first got her and now that she is a year old I realize how quick she picks things up and that I should have just played with her more in the beginning and let her be a puppy.

This article was invaluable to me when crate training my puppy. She now lovers her crate, and sleep comfortably there through the night.

Oh how exciting!  Listen, I read so many books/articles on puppy raising before I got Jon and Dewi that I made myself a nervous wreck.  You will be fine; no, you will be great!  Enjoy that little one because it's true, they grow up way too fast.

Have a safe trip LaRissa, we'll be driving 6 hours to Ottawa this afternoon. Keep a sleeping bag, water, salt, shovel and inflate your tires to proper level. As far as puppy goes, bring a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, a roll of paper towel, poopy bags, pet friendly baby wipes and pet safe febreeze. Can't wait to see pictures :)

La Rissa, I know you will do great and can not wait to hear about your new puppy. Also can not wait to see what he will actually grow up to be since the daddy was a passing stranger. The puppy will probably sleep a lot on the way back (hopefully) and best of luck to you in the training. Just remember your instincts are probably right and it really doesn't last long! How exciting!
