Not sure if anyone else's corgi has this issue but Monty has just blown his winter coat thanks to a nice warm fall. In Northern Virginia we had a few days of cold weather that excited the fuzz butt to no end and his beautiful coat came in nicely. Then it went away and the humans enjoyed a nice 3 week spell of 60 and 70 degree weather. Unfortunately this is too warm for Monty's winter coat and he has been shedding it all over the house for the past week. He is back to his trim Spring self just in time for the Thanksgiving cold snap. I love this breed but I would love it a bit more if his coat would only blow once a year. Of course he is so adorable it is all worth it, just needed to vent to a group who understands!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Elizabeth, yes that sounds like a blown coat...basically it is a sudden increase in hair and hair tufts coming off the pup. Yes Corgis shed a lot normally but when they "blow" their coat it seems to double. Monty always seems to get his winter coat twice due to the mid-atlantic having these temperature changes. Expect it again in the spring. I remember the first time he blew his coat I thought I had stepped on him without realizing it because there were these big tufts of hair on the floor and I freaked thinking I pulled it out somehow...now I know better.

Jon is losing massive amounts of fur here in sunny and too warm Richmond. He is ony 11 mos. and I don't know what a blown coat looks like, but if he loses too much more coat, he might go bald. My house is completely overrun with fur tumble weeds!

My Corgis just LOVE the cold! If the house get above 70 they are not happy. Sally doens't want to come inside when the grass is crunchy! They just love it when it snows, running around digging their snouts in the snow. I haven't noticed too much shedding though....at least not more then is always in the house. :)
