Hope this doesn't continue...lost 2 cats due to rat poison which we NEVER use and the closest neighbor is about 3 miles away. This included my baby cat KK that found us...this also happened about 20 miles from here and we think someone is trying to poison coyotes and maybe something ate it and wandered onto the property and died. The one was an outside shed cat and until KK got sick and we took him to the vet we had NO idea.
Cougar sighting are rare around here BUT 2 nights ago he was 3 miles away and last night he was spotted 1 1/2 miles away. Our dogs go out in fences after dark but they're only 4' tall so that wouldn't stop a cougar:( Guess we'll be in the fences with them tonight and very short times!
Corgis are all fine but it's scary! They have been acting a bit crazier but I was thinking it's the cooler weather or at least hope that's why!

So sorry to hear that Jane, I can't imainge what you're going through :(
Jane, i'm so sorry to hear about your cats! :( hope you and the corgis have no cougar encounters!!!!
Thanks everyone...yes, Julia...people don't understand that even if they are feral cats,,,I have saved them (hopefully) from a worse life because they do get fixed and have shots, regular food and a warm place to live. The humane society has placed several cats in my outside care due to "really caring". So I feel bad when something like this happens and the other cat was the friendliest and always around! I feel like I let him down. My 2 old cats are the also "hand-me-downs" from kids and are now 15 & 16 years old. I guess I just have to remember that I can't control everything...as hard as I try to with animals!
Jane, I'm so sorry to hear about your poor kitties. It's so hard to lose a cat you care for like you did for KK. It can be hard, especially in a rural area, to find a sympathetic ear when it's "just a cat." Keep a close eye on every one else!
Aww Jane....I am so sorry about your kitties especally KK. I would be going out with the dogs. I hope that cougar starts moving in the other direction. We lost a dog to poison when I was kid but that was deliberate, someone was baiting the dogs. Of course that was 55 years ago before anyone ever heard of leash laws.
So sorry about the cats. I am glad you can go out and supervise the dogs. I hope the rest of the animals stay safe.
Im so sorry Jane, how sad. :( Hope you don't get any visitor cougars!
So sorry about the loss of your cats especially KK! Unfortunately it is so easy for a cat to be poisoned since they catch and eat so many little critters...mice, rats, moles etc. Fortunately cougars are usually shy so I hope you never get a good look at them!
