I just got this tonight from our local humane society and thought I needed to pass this on. Even if a few write letters it may help some corgis live better lives!
Cheryl,For
decades, unscrupulous pet dealers have imported thousands of young, often
unweaned and unvaccinated puppies from foreign puppy mills for resale in the
U.S. These puppies often suffer harsh, long-distance transport, exposed to
extreme temperatures and infectious diseases along the way. Many of them die.
On Sept. 1, the USDA issued a
proposed rule that will amend the Animal Welfare Act regulations to prohibit the
import of puppies under six months of age for resale. This follows the
congressional passage of HSUS-backed legislation in 2008 to ban puppy mill
imports, and now the law will finally be enforced and implemented. Please
write to the USDA to voice your support of this rule before the Oct. 28
deadline, and encourage swift and aggressive enforcement.
Thank
you for all you do for animals.
