I just had to keep Dot by me at all times, or if i had to leave she had to go back into her pen. One trainer told me that Dot was chewing the carpet because she was board, and/or teething in the front. I got new toys that are interesting and something that kept her busy!! She is doing well now THANK GOD !!! Good luck to you!

Did you ever find a solution for the carpet chewing/digging? My rufus is 10 months old and is in an apartment all day while I'm at work. The last two months he has been randomly been digging holes around the edges of the carpet. At one pont he dug such a big hole I crated him the rest of the day. nothing seems to be working though

Walkies!!!! She is bored she needs something to do. Bully sticks work great for chewing

Just a note on using Bitter Apple - test it on something else (like a toy or piece of food) BEFORE spraying it on your carpet. Casey actually liked the taste of bitter apple, and would activity seek out things it was sprayed on. Fortunately, I had received the same advice (to test it before applying) and avoided encouraging her to chew on things I was trying to discourage.

But supervision and correction/diversion really is the best mechanism to truly stop the behaviour. Remember - it's not enough to correct the unwanted behaviour, you also have to provide her with a positive outlet for her energy/chewing needs.

Bitter Apple, keep her around you at all times (Umbilical cord method), correct her when you see her starting to chew up the carpet then give her one of her chew toy, crate her when no one is watching her. Good luck!

For what it's worth, when Lucy started chewing spots in the carpet, no amount of Bitter Apple helped. In desperation, I removed her soft stuffed animal toys that I thought might seem similar to the carpeting––I know this sounds far-fetched and nutty, but Lucy stopped eating the carpet. Maybe it was coincidence. I have no clue. But, if Dot has stuffed animal type toys, try removing them. Let me know. ; )

Two words - bitter apple. Our 10 week old LOVES to bite at the carpet. It's almost like she can't control herself! We spray the hot spots with better apple and it stops her in her tracks!

Oscar did the same thing when I first got him, if there is particular spot that she likes spray it with bitter apple, you will have to spray it for at least a week. Also crate her when you are not watching her. Hope this helps
