I can't help but laugh with your post because Rowdy did the same thing! I got him when he was only 6 weeks and we cuddled and snuggled for the first 2 weeks. Then he had NO interest in cuddling or sleeping in my bed. He destroyed everything he could and hated his collar. After I got him fixed, he has mellowed out a bit, cuddles on the couch more, and minds his training. He still pulls on the leash, but he wears his collar (and some shirts) proudly. All I had to do was just make him wear the collar and pull the leash around the house, now it's nothing. He still won't cuddle in my bed though, which I think is strange. He prefers the crate at night to the bed, but loves to sleep on the couch when I'm napping on it. He's going through a phase, it'll pass. He knows you're mama :) Nothing can change that.
Sending much patience your way when he starts teething. Rowdy started at exactly 16 weeks. It was a rough and tough couple of weeks when all the teeth were coming out/in. Lots of ice cubes and late crying nights. Now the dust has settled and I think we are thick as thieves :)
Enjoy your baby!
Wow, Thanks for all the great advice!
We are enrolled in puppy class that starts April 18th at the local PetCo. It's Level 1 for puppies 8 weeks to 6 months. It's mostly to focus on socializing with other dogs and people and learn very basic commands like sit, stay, come, etc. I am really looking forward to the class.. I think it will help with the bonding.
I know Corgis aren't known for being cuddlers, but the first few days I had him he would just lay in my arms and lick my face. If he is asleep on the floor, I can pick him up and hold him and he won't be bothered by it. I just love him so much as if he were my own baby and I want to hold him all the time!
I have been trying the method of keeping a chew toy right next to me at all times and I stick it in his mouth when he is trying to bite my hands too much. It was working for awhile... Until he realized what I was doing and now he will take the toy.. walk a few steps away.. drop it.. spin around and bite my hands again. I have an arsenal of toys on the floor with me at all times though.. so we will work on it some more.
I know leash training will take a while to get going but he does do well when he wants to focus. I always say "Good boy! Great job!" the whole time he is walking in a straight path at a steady pace. We mainly do this on the dirt path at the bayou behind the house because I think the pavement is too hard for the pads on his feet.
The past few days he has just been very Corgi-ish and I know that I'm worrying too much about him, but he is my first puppy and I want to raise him right. Again, thanks for the advice everybody- I really do appreciate it :)
