Hey all-

My little Johann has quirky eating habits... I honestly think that he has food ADD.  When I got him at 8 weeks, he had been eating Purina Puppy Chow dry food with Pedigree canned food for Puppies.  I had already bought a bag of Wellness Super 5 Mix for Puppies and a few cans of the Pedigree Puppy canned food so that he would have something familiar to him.  He is now 10.5 weeks old and still will not touch his Wellness dry food.

I always mix his dry and wet together very well but he has figured out that he can just suck the wet food off of the kibble and drop it back into his bowl.  I just bought him the Pedigree Little Champions wet food packets- they have cubes of meat and gravy in them- and again he just eats the meat and licks up all the gravy.  I feed him in the living room just outside the kitchen because my three cats get fed wet food (Fancy Feast) twice a day down on the floor.  I forget to pick up their plates when they are finished eating sometimes, and he runs in there and starts devouring any Fancy Feast leftovers he can get.  I have also had to move the cats' dry food (Purina Cat Chow) up high so that he can't get it anymore.  He loves their food but refuses to eat his own!

The last thing... he has stopped eating his Grreat Dog puppy biscuits.  I always break one in half for him when I crate him as a treat for not whining.  We aren't even 1/4 through the big bag and he doesn't like them anymore.  Same with the Milkbone brand little beef flavored rawhide bones.  He's had 2 or 3 out of a pack of 7 and he doesn't want them now.  I keep a bag of bacon flavored Pup-peroni in the car but he only gets that when we go somewhere in the car- so he still likes that one.

Has anybody else had problems trying to get your Corgi puppy to eat their own food?  Any problems with your Corgis getting bored with their food or treats?

Johann and I appreciate your feedback! :)

Thanks for the wonderful reponses!

Johann just isn't a gobbler I guess.. But at least he is eating now.  About 2 weeks ago I switched him to Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice for Puppies and he seems to like it; he just doesnt have a big appetite. Hopefully that will change as he gets bigger!

Hi! And welcome! We are both first timers! Yay!  I saw that Johann did eat his food today thats great! I feed Wiley Blue Buffalo Brand (for her the calorie specific, but they have puppy too.) She has a sensitive tummy and the ingredients in BB are all natural and apparently delicious because she gobbles it right up. Havent had a problem with it one time!

For his kibble I would just mix a little warm water into it and set it down for 20 minutes. If he doesn't eat it, pick it back up. A healthy dog will not starve itself next to a full food bowl. I used to coddle Henry like crazy with his food, putting wet food in, gravy, treats, whatever I could to get him to eat. Once we decided to get a second dog we started just picking up his bowl if he didn't eat it, and surprise surprise now he eats just fine. Picky eaters are made not born! :)

Sidney didn't like Wellness or Blue Buffalo. He liked Rotations but it's getting too hard to find. We're transitioning to Taste of the Wild...but he eats his canned food and leaves the kibble until late at night when he knows nobody else is eating, then he finished the dry food. He's weird.

Have you tried mixing water with the remaining dry food and letting it sit for a while? Maybe he likes his food softer.  It's possible.

I think Scout is the same way as I also mix packets of wet food with dry.  She will do the thing where she spits out or eats around what she doesn't want.  In the morning when I feed her the wet plus dry food, she will just eat the wet.  But in the evening, after we have been out walking, she will go to her bowl and finish MOST (not all) of her dry food.

This is the resulting scene:

My puppy Zeus is the same way I have had to go through 4 different kind of foods, finally i found one he loves and he eats it up in seconds, it may be also that he turns 17 weeks old today and is turning into the true corgi "hoover" lol, but just so you know my zeus was the same way, he is so finicky, I started adding wet food to his also and now he eats it, trying all the different kinds before, he would just look at it and walk away :(, I was very worried he was starving, he didn't like his treats either and finally does now- good luck :)
