A couple of days ago, I had my door open and Scout was right outside.  I heard a yelp then ran to see if she was ok.  --Nothing but thin air, so I assume she was stung by a bee? Well, today, I have the door open again, and a huge fly comes in the apartment.  She starts shivering and cowering next to me.  I injure the fly with a flyswatter, and then she gets brave enough to finish it off.  Then another fly, more shivering... Wish I had a screen door now.

And in other news...

Today is the 4 month anniversary of when I got Scout (Dec 3rd, 2010).  She is doing so much better with other dogs than she was when I first got her.  She used to be snippy with other dogs and posessive of both food and attention.  She would not be able to eat in the same room as Hershi, my 14 year old girl (this month!).  She also would allow no other dog close to me when I was petting her.  Now, she is great.  Yeah, she will get annoyed and grumble occasionally, but other than that she doesn't mind if I am visiting another dog.  Watching and helping her progress is different than the puppy experience that I had with Hershi, but still fun.

Now, if we could get over this insect phobia.....

aww poor girl! teddy got stung by some kind of bug(fire ant maybe?) and his whole face and eyes swelled up! poor guy had to go to the vet immediately.  but i am very happy to hear she has gotten better with other dogs:) i know how u feel as it took 4 1/2 months of training to get teddy to love other dogs instead of growl and fear them

Poor girl. One of Ein's favorite pass times is to hunt bugs. So far she's gotten a couple moths and a mosquito hawk.

Sparty got stung by a bee at an early age. Unfortunately it made him hate flying insects and he will go after them with a vengeance. He has been stung many times over the years but he persists in his desire to rid the planet of all flying insects. It is the one thing he does that doesn't seem very smart, otherwise he is a brilliant corgi. He would be happy to pass this skill on to Hershey but I think your better off with a little fear.

Hi Emily!! if you go on-line to Gaiam or Vermont Country Store, they have a screen that hangs on a rod like a curtain. the rod is spring-loaded like a shower rod. You hang it in the doorway & voila!!

I have one in one of my doorways & it's awesome. It's on the side of the house that gets a solar beating. I've had it for, um 8yrs? more.

As to the phobia, I don't know. Maybe more of the you swatting & her finishing? She must have gotten nipped by something bitey, poor girl. Bugsy, on the otherhand, gets annoyed with flies & starts to chase them around. Also luckily, they are only a problem a couple months out of the year here...
