What an awful situation for everyone.  We have baby gates in 5 places in our 1800 sq. ft. house because one of our corgis and one of our pug mixes can't be together.  Wiigi (pug mix) started a spat with Lilliy (corgi) over a ball.  Lilly was just near the ball.  She didn't even want it.  i got those 2 apart, and then Prissy (pug mix)  went after Lilly.  I broke that up and went back to fixing my dinner.  Then Prissy turned around, and 1 of her eyes was hanging out.  Off to the emergency vet we went on the July 4th weekend, and $1200 later Prissy is fine---1-eyed, but fine.  All of our dogs and cats are rescues with mostly unknown pasts.  

 

If I ever find the perfect home for Prissy, she will leave us.  I know she learned nothing from this experience and will probably be injured far worse if she goes after Lilly again.  I'm not sure the perfect home for her exists.  I also know that once an animal leaves our house, we have NO control over that critter's fate.  With that in mind, we continue with the baby gate maze.

 

Good luck with your decision.  I do not envy you at all.  With Rexx being the problem, re-homing is very problematic.  If you do have him put down, you will be certain that he will never be neglected and he will never be abused or abandoned.  {{{{{{{{{{   HUGS   }}}}}}}}}} to you and your critters

I'm so sorry to hear this. It is always an agonizing decision when you have to decide when a healthy animal is no longer safe. I personally would be very worried about rehoming him...I know rescues will not take a dog with a bite history and I'm not sure what the legal issues would be if he did bite someone after he left your home. I hope you and LO are feeling better soon.

I am so sorry you have to go through this!  I would be very leery of trying to get him into a rescue--they will probably put him down.  I made that mistake once with an Aussie I had fostered until I got him into a rescue.  He was a great dog at our house, never had any aggression issues at all, but evidently bit the rescuer.  I think euthanasia isn't an option.  I would try to do the one dog household.  Let the vet know (and I think having him check him out is a good idea- he may be sick), let them help you rehome him.  Put him on petfinder.  Is there any way you can keep him seperated until you can find him a home?  I hope Lando feels better soon...poor guy!

I just hated reading your story. I'm sure you are feeling very upset and conflicted. How old is Rexx? I would have a tough time rehoming him because you cannot control what happens next. What if there is trouble in the new home? What will they do about it? I don't think you have any easy answers but I will pray that you can make the decisions necessary. PS- Maybe you could set up a guaranteed no-aggression playdate for Lando so he doesn't develop any fear or anxiety towards other dogs.

We went through something like this with my first Corgi, Watson.  He got progressively more aggressive towards our mini-Dachshund and finally towards my wife Debbie.  Despite all of our efforts it got worse and finally Watson bit Debbie on the side and did some real damage to little 11lb Holly as Debbie and Holly sat playing on the living room floor.

I very sadly built a pen the next day in the backyard and segregated Watson from the rest of the family.  I couldn't bear to re-home him and because he'd become aggressive towards Debbie I wasn't sure that was even wise.  I determined that he'd have to live out his days (just 10 years old then) in the backyard with me as his only buddy. 

A week or two later Watson was unsteady on his feet one night and the next morning collapsed.  I rushed him to the vet but it was clear that not much that was practical could be done so we had him put to sleep.  Still chokes me up to write about it.   Anyway, from our description the vet felt that Watson must have been having mild strokes or possibly a tumor.   In the end, letting him go was the best thing for all even though it was so terribly painful for us.  My point in this story is that poor Rexx may be suffering from something internal and can't really help himself.

The good news is that Holly recovered (she has a huge scar on her side) and is a happy little wiener dog and I'm sure Lando will be just fine with your love and attention.   I know whatever you decide, you'll do what you believe is truly best for Rexx and for your family.

I would also agree with trying to rehome Rexx to a single dog home, it is so sad to have to euthanize him but I also understand, it is a tough decision, Hope Lando is doing okay!!
