The day I brought Maple home, I was so anxious to have the excitement of a cute puppy running around the house. She was rambunctious in every way but I totally loved it and her. She would tear apart anything I would give her in minutes! She had never ending energy, always wanting to play with others or herself. She never had a problem keeping herself entertained! Boy, I miss those days!

Maple turned 3 years old last month, and her bday gift was a new chew toy. Which is still intact...say what?!?! Yes, she has not ripped it into shreds yet. She was happy to receive it, spending a whole 5 minutes laying on her back, holding up her new chew toy with her itty bitty arms enjoying each bite lol...as I type I can see it laying in the hallway (still intact) and she elsewhere.

I miss my crazy pup! She is so mature now. Is this how it's going to be? For those of you who have adult corgis, I would like to hear the transitional stories of pup to all grown up that you have experienced. I look forward to reading your comments, thanks!

@ Bev Levy; I completely agree with you.

My first dog growing up was named Buffy, except she wasn't a corgi, she was a choodle (chihuahua + poodle).

My Sparty tore everything up until at age 13 we finally had to help him over the Rainbow Bridge. I did miss some of his puppy antics as his energy level began to diminsh during the last years fighting cancer but he remained a puppy. Izzy and my previous corgi, Buffy, have been pretty much "old ladies" from the begining. It is funny how much you miss puppyhood when everyone behaves most of the time!

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I think we are all more loyal to our corgis then them to us lol! Corgis rule!

I read all the comments and I look back over Oscar's time as a puppy he was a good puppy never got up to mischief he was bossed around by 3 Burmese cats. I used to refer to him as my little bear on 4 legs!. he used to run around after me and he looked like a little bear cub!. He never chewed anything he hated squeaky toys and chase a ball never he left that up to his dad to do!. He has a gentle quiet nature now he is 10 he seems to just want to enjoy old age he still loves going in the car with Sam. He is Paul's shadow and follows him everywhere. His favourite thing is to lie on his back he loves his tummy rubs. he is a true loyal, faithful dog and he is always at the top of the stairs when I come up from the garage he hears the sound of the auto garage door going up this means dad is home from the office "Treat Time" and plenty of tummy rubs!. Just the smile on his face and his rear end and stump going 10 to the dozen and the kisses makes it all worth while!!.

I am looking forward to a day when my Corgi will mellow down! She's almost a year old now and still as destructive and bossy as ever!

My corgis are almost nine years old.  They still love to play and take walks.  Fetch is their most favorite game.  I find they are still very playful, they seem to like a little more rest, and they are less prone to tear their toys up.

I have  9 and 11 year olds...I don't know what they were like as puppies since they both came to me as adults.  But I can tell you they still have their wild moments...like every night.  WE MUST PLAY WITH BOBO!  And then there is herding the cats at any time of the day.  Of course there must be naps between the herdings but all I need do is say a cat's name and off they go.  Carrot also sends them into a tizzy.

So remember the silly antics of the puppy just like you would with a child but enjoy the "mature" dog just as you would with your adult child.

I think it depends more on personality, even as a pup. Wynn and Sage were never too bad as pups and on the mellow side, Wynn would never have thought of ripping up anything and still sleeps in his puppy bed which he hangs over:). Livvy was my wild child from the start and Bella was my sweet gentle lady and still is. They all still can run around like crazy idiots at times but every night they turn into the sweet laid back cuddlers.

@ Bogart the Cardigan, enjoy it while it lasts! Is Bogart a mix? He has some resemblance of a Pem. Very cute boy!
