I like proper names to reinforce the idea that this is a person.
If I had a blackface tri, I'd name it Procyon (Pro for short). This is the bright star in Canis Minor, Orion's Little Dog left of Orion, upper-left of Sirius (the Dog Star in Canis Major, Orion's Big Dog). Procyon is also the genus name of the racoons -- the mask.
Waffle?????? As in Belgian Waffle??????? We do have a Corgi named Waffle on this.
You can also name a pup after someone/or another pet. My Livvy was named Olivia after a woman I admired. Bella was named after a stray Bella we found as a pup.
Our great nephew is named Max but our dog Max is a rescue so I didn't name him.
Oh, pick something you like and have a positive association with. If you want a well behaved dog, don't name it Rowdy....
I agree with Jane and Linda, the dog itself will suggest the right name to fit it's personality. Once you have the pup, a certain name will seem to "fit" and another will not. It may be one of the names you looked up, or it may be one that just pops into your head. It's all part of the fun!
I like to name my pets after characters in my favorite books, or TV shows. My pets right now are named Shippo, Eevee, and Faye. =)
