So...Ponyo has decided that the carpet just on the other side of the couch is where she gets to poop. She is sadly mistaken. Sgt. Husband thinks we need to re-housebreak her. She'll pee outside just fine, but has taken to pooping in that one spot of the living room. He was just cleaning it up and not scolding her, I think she needs to be scolded, so when I caught her having freshly pooped in the house mere minutes after I had taken her outside for an extended period of time, I scolded her six ways from Sunday. She knows she's in trouble. Hopefully she knows why.

When I scolded her yesterday it was right as she finished pooping and started nosing around her droppings, I think she understood. I took her out this morning and she did her business in the yard, and I lavished her with praise. I've taken to sitting on a table under the living room window when we're in there so I can watch the spot that she has her "accidents" in to be sure. Fingers crossed!

Vinegar and water w/ a drop  or two of detergent work wonders in getting the odors out of carpet. Also, take the poop and put it in the spot you want her to go, even if you have to bag it to take outside with you later. It might help remind her where she should go.

I agree with all of the above... but I wish to add that it might help if you take her outside on a leash about 20-30 mins after she eats and wait until she poops.  When she does, praise her lavishly.  Keep doing this until the problem is solved. good luck!

I would definitely block off that spot or try leashing her to you so you can watch her 100% of the time. Unless you actually catch her IN THE ACT of pooping, she's not going to understand what you're scolding her for.

You should only be punishing her if you catch her in the act!  Otherwise, it could be confusing.  But yes, she does need to associate pooping in the house with your disapproval or else she will continue to do it.  Definitely get an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle and block the spot off.  It might just be that spot...

I would block that spot and put her poop outside where you want her to go. If she continues make sure youare watching her all the time, you can leash her and attach it to you for a few days. That way you can stop her before she goes. Also make sure you are using a good cleaner that is designed to clean animal waste. There may have been a good smell that you were unaware of there that triggered this.
