We have a crazy work schedule. And the kid FINALLY got a job!! (hooray). So I try to make the time we have with Gwen the  best. I want her to be able to go for rides in the car.

I also want her restrained for everyone's safety. Her crate I  believe would be too big for either of our cars.

I was looking online for options. What brand/type do you all use??

Thanks!!

Kat :)

We use the Noz2Noz brand soft sided crate and use bungee cords to secure them.

Noz2Noz dog crate

Sid hops right in and rides in style :)

Well what I got seemed to do the trick so far. She can sit up and lay down. If we were bringing her any long distance..like say when we go to Tenn in the summer I'd definitely get a travel crate. Of course that could be a challenge having that and a 5'7" teenager in the back of a Chevy Aveo. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Thanks everyone!! :D

we have two things, a collapsible crate for one car:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GZ1EHW/ref=oh_details_o00_s02_...  (this one fastens to the car with the seatbelts, as well)

and a pet booster seat with clip that attaches to the harness and keeps the pup safely fastened inside.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=22023 (got the jumbo sized, most of the smaller sizes are for toy breeds)

machete favors the booster seat because he likes looking out the windows and such. and he can comfortably lie down in it as well.

My Maxwell is a daily commuter (mon-fri), and the booster seat he has is larger enough for him to comfortably lay down in, and in the mornings, he will often lay down and take a short nap....(in the afternoon drive home, he never sleeps, he is always alert and looking all around...I like it because the harness he uses is the same one he uses during the day when he goes for walks, so I don't need to switch out or change anything...here is a link to a booster very similar to what I use...the one I got was from Hollywood Feed, and was a different brand, but they look almost indentical. http://www.petco.com/product/112973/Kurgo-Skybox-Blue-Collapsible-P...

@Lindsay and Fay - how does the harness connect to the seat belt?  I looked at the product page but could not figure it out from the picture.  I'd like Bogart to be able to look out the windows but still be restrained... if there is something that would work...

I use both a seat belt harness and a crate depending on the trip. Short trips in town, I use the harness. I also have to use the harness if someone will be in the back seat with her. The back seats need to be folded down for her crate to fit. I use the crate on longer trips, or if I know she may want more relaxed down time.

The strap that goes between her harness and the seat belt can get twisted if she moves around. The more it twists, the less comfortable it is for her.

She'll be six months on the 23rd. I went to PetSmart and bought this;

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3951211&f=P...

It's a harness and the seat belt attaches to it. We're hoping it'll do the trick. She has a play date with my mom's pup so we're testing it soon. I kept the receipt.

I believe that dogs should be kenneled. Will post a picture later today. I travel many miles a week with my dogs and incase of an accident I want to know they are safe and can't get loose and run if there was one. Dogs can spook and not want to come near anyone in times like an accident.

Sky is 17 weeks old and weighs 15 lbs. I use a medium size Pet Taxi plastic crate, which fits in the back seat of our Prius. I like it for a couple of reasons: 1. he is quiet and often will fall asleep in it, and 2. if he throws up, the mess is contained.

I don't know if the harness/seatbelt setup allows the dog to lie down and sleep comfortably.

How old is Gwen?? I have a 3 1/2 month old, and he uses a lupine harness along with a booster seat. The booster seat allows him to be elevated so that he can better see out the window, and the harness allows him a bit of movement, but since the harness is attached to the boosters ring that goes through the seatbelt, he is always safe....and he absolutely loves riding in the car.
