Hi everyone,
Today is a sad day in our house. Our 14 1/2 year old, Cody, is being sent to the Rainbow Bridge. As you may know, we rescued him from a woman who was going to dump him. He was almost 13, shaved to the skin, filthy. He had been thrown in a back yard with no human contact apart from food thrown to him. He came to the store with an old belt around his neck and a rusty chain attached, non-ambulatory and scared. Fortunately, he was heartworm negative and his fur soon grew back to such a beautiful corgi coat. To be loved was his only request. And he most certainly is. He came out of his shell and was a wonderful companion. He loved to snuggle, especially Patti. He flourished with his new healthy food, corgi friends and us. And now, he is losing his neurological function. I found him dragging himself along the floor the other morning. He couldn't get his back legs under him. He has found it more difficult to get up from a laying position. He has to lie down to drink from the water bowl. And, above it all, he has been treated a few times for a mass in his face. Now, I feel several others in his neck. He's not happy anymore. And it's time to let go. Our hearts are broken beyond measure for our little man. He will be missed terribly. As with all of our companions, he will be cremated and have a place of honor among the others we have lost. But it is no consolation for what we have to do today.
Our hope is that he will meet our Rudy on the other side of the Bridge and play once more. (We did warn him not to try to take Rudy's ball, however.) Thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers today.
