It has been a while since I have made a blog post about our little bundle of energy, Buddy. He is about 17 weeks old now and he has proven to be rather difficult the past couple weeks. We were originally advised by our trainer to keep him on a leash at all times, due to potty accidents and to keep him under our control. Since he has gotten a little bit older we have given him a little more freedom and allowing him to be off leash around the house. He is doing fantastic with the potty training! All we have to say is "time to go outside" and he runs to the door that goes to our walkout basement stairs and somewhat patiently waits, haha. We have noticed that when he gets really excited, either when someone new comes to our house, or when we go to the dog park, that he pees just a tiny little. We are really hoping this is something he will grow out of. He is super social, so I dont think its a nerves thing, I am starting to think that he pees a little because he is so excited, but im not sure.

When we do let him out of his crate (without the leash) he has started to run puppy derbies around our house. He doesnt really listen to when we call him and just runs away any time we get close to him. He has taken a liking to running under our furniture and laying there then dashing out for another lap then back around the furniture, which is truly frustrating! We know he is just a puppy and he's got tons of energy, but we are having a hard time draining him of that energy as of late. He usually gets about 45+ minutes of walks a day and pleanty of run around the house time, yet he still seems to be over stimulated.

Buddy has also started getting a little mouthy again during playtime. We thought we had broke him of that habit but it seems he is starting up again. We try to play fetch with him but he wants to play tug-o-war with the ball almost every time. We started using little pieces of kibble to reward him for dropping the ball, but then he would be too focused on the food instead actually retrieving the ball. He is soooo bossy! It just seems like we are never able to wear him out and that can be very frustrating when you want to sit back and catch up on a little TV.

We finally got him enrolled in a puppy class that starts on the 16th, so we hope that will help out. It just so happens that we got Buddy after all teh puppy classes in the area had already started, so we are a little behind!

Ragnar picked up the running away game too. I'm beginning to believe it's a corgi, or at least herder, thing. He wants to run up to you, have you react and chase, then circle around you, so it's either some mad herding activity, or part of the whole corgi stubbornness.

Corgis are bossy and love to bark! When we go out to visit the breeder that we got Bucher from, they sound so mean chasing the ball together!! That is just how they are when they play. Bucher could control the lab pups he grew up with by his bark/growl. It is all talk, try not to let it bother you it will get better as they get older - maybe...:)
