Hey Everyone,

I came home from work today to discover that Buddy got into our half bathroom and chewed up one of the plastic caps on the toilet, and ate part of the ceramic piece that was underneath it. Just for clarification, it was the cap that covers the screw that holds the toilet in place. He didn't eat the plastic cap, just chewed on it. It seems the main course was part of the ceramic piece. Upon further inspection of the other untouched cap, I noticed that the ceramic piece is covered in glue..... We live in a rental townhouse, I have no idea what products were used, but I do know that no repairs have been made on that toilet in the last 7 months. I took a picture of the carnage for you to look at. He seems fine so far.... he's trying to look innocent! I looked up the symptoms of glue poisoning and know what to look for there, but my main concern is the potential ingestion of the ceramic piece. After I compared Buddy's leftovers to the untouched ceramic part, I can really tell if he ate a lot of it or just a little since the other untouched ceramic piece looked a little jagged too...... Any advice?

Thanks!

The carnage:

I think Corgi's must have stomachs of steel, with the things they seem to eat without getting sick. I know mine has consumed some fairly awful things without any visible complications. Make sure to give him plenty of water, to help flush any chemicals out of his system though. I try to keep a little water dish in Addy-Bell's crate for when I shut her in (it latches to the front bars!).

Thank you so much for the advice! He has gotten a lot more mischievious as he has gotten older..

When Ethel ate a container of wood putty (sigh), after confirming it was nontoxic, the vet had me give her extra fiber for a week or so -- I added brown rice to her meals -- to help the stuff keep moving through her system. You could ask about that, too.

In your pics, he is too funny -- no remorse. In fact, I don't think I'd leave any wood putty around your house if I were you, he may be contemplating his next snack.

LOL he doesn't look sorry at all! His eyes and body are saying, "Don't throw me in the briar patch!"

Yes he was very sorry for his bad deeds. Jail time would be more effective if he didn't love his crate!

Probably just fine but a little embarrassed about his jail time.

Awwww looks innocent to me! I'd call the vet and ask!

Looks like the plastic bolt cover was being held on with some white silicone caulk. If he's not showing any ill effects I wouldn't worry about it but you could call your vet just to make sure the rubbery stuff will "pass through" ok.
