So our puppy is about 11 weeks old now. He is doing great for the most part, and he is really starting to enjoy and depend on his daily walks. We live in a townhouse style neighborhood, and we got a decent amount of snow over the weekend. Buddy loves the snow! We let him off the leash in our backyard, and he went crazy! We got one good walk in on Saturday morning pre-snow, but have not been able to walk him since due to the ice melt/salt all over the place. We have read that it can be very poisonous to dogs, and it is everywhere! Buddy is so low to the ground and so darn sneaky and he snatches up pretty much anything he wants off the ground in a blink of an eye without missing a step, so I am worried about taking him outside for walks. Is there something I could do to make it "safe" or "safer" for him to go for his walks? All this pent up energy is really not helping his behavior issues!

When there is a lot of salt on sidewalks we try to walk in the park as much as we can. The grassy area you mention sounds good. Housebreaking in winter is no fun! Good luck!

We have this grassy area behind our townhouse that may work out perfectly. There is a lot of snow, but I dont think Buddy will mind! Thanks for the advice everyone.

At that age everything goes in their mouths! Try to shovel a small area for potty breaks but walks will be tough(as you have noticed) if he wants to eat the salt. If he doesn't then you can still walk him short distances. Just wipe his feet and belly after. He is cute!

We face this almost daily living here in Mn. I have the advantage of having a fenced back yard so I do let them out a lot to release energy back there. We try to find a place to walk that has snow pack( dog parks, hiking trails, nature center trails) If we have to walk in the nasty stuff I make sure to wipe off their paws when they come in but they don't try to eat it.....so I guess I would try to make sure Buddy knows to LEAVE IT or shoot for a more snow packed area to walk even if you have to drive to get there first!

If you could do off leash/backyard and some chase the ball type exercises would help! I live in the country and very seldom use salt so I can't help with that. Even a small soccor ball in the house for him to chase in the hall also!
