Stop asking me whether she is pure?

I LOVE my little girl and would NOT trade her for anything.

But I sometimes got the same question "Is she pure?" from the people who knows a little bit about corgis or from some corgi owner. I don't think there is anything wrong with my girl. I know she is pure and she behaves totally in Corgi-Style, but we have to admit that each dog looks different. Those beautiful ones which are considered close to the standard would participate in the dog shows. Those ones ain't we still love them to death. Just like us people, tall, short, slim, muscular....etc.

For curiosity, I want to know what make them think my girl is not pure, anything makes her off the "Standard"?

Here are some pics taken by a pet photographer. (Yes, I do want to show off my lovely girl as well ;-P)

DouBao looks like a sweetheart and is certainly every inch a corgi.  A corgi can deviate A LOT from the official corgi standard and still be a pure bred corgi, just not a championship corgi.   Judging to the breed standard gets into differences in so many areas that are not obvious to our untrained eyes.

But there are no perfect corgis and that's why good  breeders continue to try and improve the breed and measure the dogs against the agreed upon standard and and compete against one another.  The link goes to an overview of the corgi standard, the official, printed book runs 38 pages of descriptions, photos, and guides.  You'll be amazed at what goes into making the best of the breed. If you love corgis it's worth reading about that stuff.

From the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America official page:

How they look from the front and back and how they move is equally important.

As for people asking if your dog is "pure" don't be too offended, there's a funny message thread around here somewhere about the silly things people ask about corgis and "what mix is it?" is common.   I got that question about Sparkle not long ago and she has an outstanding pedigree full to the brim with well known champions including both of her parents.

So...your pal DouBao is a ways off the ideal breed standard in several areas.  So what?  She's a living, breathing corgi!!  You love her, she loves you and that's the most important thing.

Franklin is built similar to her, taller and slimmer than a "standard". Also he's a tri which REALLY throws people off. I've actually had people argue with me about what he's mixed with. I tend to just let them say what they want. I know hes all corgi and that's all that matters :-D

She's beautiful and looks like a purebred. I run into this because Sage has a tail so some people only know enough  to think she's a Corgi think she's a Cardigan...of coarse I have to let them know she's a Pembroke with a tail.

I know that I tend to put off their routine nail clipping for several days because both act as if I am going to chop off their stubs. I just might do it to teach them a lesson.

Sorry about the long nails... They are not usually like that --- It was around the time for cutting. And we visited a new opened pet store in which the pet photographer had a promotion. We just took the pics right there, no time for preparation. I do both the clipper and the grinder drimmer for the nails. But thanks for the reminding:-)

She looks maybe a little high in the leg but certainly looks pure bred to me. There is a tri boy at our playgroup that people are always asking if he's a mix...I think people just don't know what they're supposed to look like sometimes lol.

She looks beautiful and all corgi. My Sparty was a little long legged but if you look at the corgis from the 1930's they all looked like that so I just used to tell people that he was the old fashioned style corgi...very rare :) and special!

I think she looks just like my Ruby, and I get asked frequently if she is a corgi mix.  Ruby is 22 pounds and the vet says she is not under/overweight.

What a great smile! Other folks don't know what they are talking about!

I agree. She looks gorgeous.

Kaylee gets the "Is she a corgi/aussie mix?" question everywhere she goes cuz of her fluffiness and coloring. So, I feel your frustration.
