Wynstan's breeder has him on Nutrena Loyall Puppy Feed, and I can not get it anywhere near me, I really don't want to drive 80 miles to a town just for kibble when some stores around here sell seemingly better food.

My question is: is it difficult getting a puppy to change kibble?

I did Odin change over a week (thats because i only had a small sample from the breeder), he did really well with the change from Eukanuba to Innova. His stool looks so much healthier LOL! that's weird to say...

The breeder sends some food, I believe that she will give me enough for about a week. Thanks for the advice everyone. Only 14 days left until I pick him up

As everyone else said, the slow 2 week method is the best. I also wanted to add, that when I first bring a new pup home, I like to keep him on his food 100% for the first few days to a week. There is so much stress already being separated from mom and litter mates for the first time, being in a new house with new people, that I don't like to change food on them too. A lot of pups will not eat anyway in high stress times, and I'm always afraid changing foods first things will only encourage them to refuse food. Good luck. Are you getting so excited already?

I agree with the others it is not hard but to do it slowly to avoid tummy upset. Does the breeder send any food with? I always include a 5-8 # bag with my pups! If so then you would only need to get the new kind...just a thought or a question for your breeder.Glad you're thinking ahead!

Not difficult at all. Do you have any idea what brand you want to switch too?

Yep, a two week transition should be good. There are directions on the side, usually (as stated). What I do is decrease the old food and increase the new by about 1 tablespoon at a time, then when I get to half-and-half I keep it there for quite a few days, then start decreasing by a tablespoon every day or two again. The whole process should take about 2 weeks, as stated.

No problem but do it slowly. They can easily get an upset stomach if you change too quick.

Not at all. We had no problem switching Jet when we got him. I would suggest buying a small bag of his current food just so you can do a slow transition from his current to the new food without problems. I think that the normal time frame is a 2 week transition. There should be directions on the side of the food bag of how much of each for each day during this period.
