It is 8:00 a.m. Twelve hours have passed since I published my first blog and I have received 9 comments and 1 official "like" so I am inspired to continue. First, let me send a big thank you out to all of you who have have taken a bit of time out of your day to read the ramblings of some 35-year-old corgi owner who has nothing better to do that write a blog about his new pup and their life together. Thank you for reading, commenting, and just being the kind people that you are.
Since my partner and I have had Bailey almost a month and a half, I have lots of stories to tell from that time but I will also include pertinent current details as well as they come up. Case in point, last night was the first night that Bailey was permitted to sleep in bed with us. The normal evening routine has always been that I head into the bedroom early and go onto my Macbook (Mac's rule!!!) to check email, facebook, play farmville (yes, I am one of THOSE people), explore itunes, and just enjoy the web. Bailey follows me into the bedroom, waits for me to get situated and then climbs his little doggy stairs at the foot of the bed, gets his body halfway onto the bed (the bed is tall, he is still growing, and the company that made the steps and the "supposed" fourth step extension that you could purchase is out of business) and then I proceed to pull him up the rest of the way. He snuggles up among the pillows and sleeps or tries to surf the web himself by stepping all over my Macbook (often closing windows in the process). Once my partner comes to bed, Bailey heads into his crate with his nightly milkbone gravy biscuit and goes to sleep. Well, last night, he slept in between us. I am glad to say that he survived. He was not crushed and neither of us were forced off the bed. I cannot say that we got the most restful night sleep. I will sleep better when I know that Bailey can safely jump off the bed (or more accurately - climb down off the bed) by himself if he so desires.
Taking a trip back in time, bringing Bailey home was totally unexpected. As detailed in my last blog, we never expected to be driving back from the breeder with an 11-week old corgi in my partner's lap. Luckily, we had ourselves covered regarding supplies. I already mentioned that I am impatient and tend to be impulsive when it comes to making purchases. Well, we had gone shopping at Petsmart the day before we went to the breeder and to Petco hours before going to the breeder and had purchased toys, collar, leash, various treats, a cage, water dispenser, a $15 Martha Stewart dog bowl (not to shabby for an ex-con), etc. My family (mother, sister, brother-in-law, & nephews) were all in Savannah, GA for the weekend so they had no idea that Bailey was coming home. I left messages for them which were returned rather quickly. Needless to say, everyone was excited.
The 45 minute drive home was filled with so many emotions. I was nervous, excited, proud, and exhausted. Bailey was definitely scared. He had just been pulled away from his playmates and placed into the arms of a huge lug of a man who, as far as this pup was concerned, might eat him with biscuits & gravy. It did not help matters that I had this lingering cough from my annual winter cold that had been plaguing me for a few weeks. Therefore, every few minutes, I would cough and poor Bailey's ears would stand up and he would spin around as if to say "what the frak was that?"
All things considered, it was a great journey home and we were thrilled to see Bailey attack every single toy that we purchased. That first afternoon/evening he ate, drank, played and had no accidents in the house - yet. With coaxing, he headed directly into his crate and slept the night away without any whimpering at all. We got no sleep at all because we kept looking at him, asleep on his back - flashing his puppy parts and his cute spotted pink belly.
Well, that's all for now.
Oh, and for those who commented regarding American Idol - I am a James Durbin fan all the way. I am hoping that Jacob goes home tonight (amazing vocal range but more for gospel music) and I am still reeling that Pia was sent home so early.
Ciao fellow corgi lovers!

Hehe, I love it! It sounds like he's doing great. I'm with John, I think it's better to bring a pup home closer to 12 weeks. Sidney was 5 months old when we brought him home.
I think James Durbin is awesome. I don't think Jacob or Lauren still belong there. I was upset when Casey Abrams went home, but I'm partial to double bass players since my son plays double bass with his high school orchestra.
my dog *hated* having a cute pink tum because mommy used to blow raspberries on it :D
He used to spend the night in the crate - now that's his siesta spot. Night time he sleeps on the bed & 1st thing when he wakes up is come up to me for a cuddle. He's pretty adament about that too.
I love when I wake up in the middle of the night & he's all sprawled in the middle on his back in all his corgi splendor - we wouldn't have it any other way!!
