There's no doubt I have the laziest dog in the world.
Every dog owner I talk to has the same story when it comes to mornings. Their pups usually cannot wait to get up. They run to wake up the kids when alarm goes off, they wiggle their bodies and whine anxious to get out of the crate, they rub their faces on their owners and radiate excitement.
Shiro had never had any of this happened. Not even once. Our mornings are totally different.
Usually I get up at 6, but on weekends I sleep in till 8 or 10, and I'm sure he doesn't even notice. He never whines or barks, he does not react to alarm clock either. When I open his crate, he looks at me, then turns over to give me easier access for belly rubs, stretches and closes his eyes. If I leave the room or start doing my own things, he's still be sitting there. I actually have to lure him out of the crate with a treat! Going potty is another story. As soon as I clip in the leash, he lays down and refuses to go. When he was under 10 pounds, I'd just grab him in one hand and take him out. But now he is 15, and it's a bit too heavy for me. So the only things to do is just drag him to the door, which is only about 3 feet away. It doesn't hurt him a bit, in fact I think he enjoys it. As soon as I'm outside, he gets up and goes on his own. He does his business within seconds and is really to explore the yard.
After breakfast it takes him about 20 more minutes to actually wake up completely. Then he starts to run around, tug on my pants, trying to play.
When we play tug, he rarely stays on his feet. Most of the time he just drops them and drags his little body on the floor, holding the toy. My instructor recommended this game to get him tired, but I think I get more tired than him, dragging 15 pounds from side to side :)
He does play hard outside, whether it's soccer, fetch or another dog, but after that he'll sleep for up to 2 hours.
It's like he does have energy, but only for short spans. Which I am totally OK with :)
The morning thing still sets me out. Just how long can he lay in the crate before he starts whining? Perhaps I'll never find out.
