We have noticed Bucher being lethargic for about a week, but when he stopped begging or wanting his breakfast I really got scared! We took him to the vet yesterday and he had a 104 fever. They did a blood test for lyme disease and it showed negative. After we stood and talked with the vet for a while; he looked at the test over again and a positive came up for Anaplasma Phagocytophilum. It is from a deer tick and mimics the signs of lymes. He is on meds for 2 weeks 3 times a day and we have to be sure to have him eat before he takes the meds. This is hard as for the first time I can remember he isn’t interested in eating! I have never heard of this before and just thought I would let you know another thing to watch for if you are in an area with a lot of ticks!

Yup, my doctor said the tick had to be in at least 24 hours. That makes me feel even more confused that I never knew I was bitten

Yes, the deer ticks are the little tiny pin head kind. We checked both dogs everytime they were outside and never saw it. The info that I read said the tick has to be on the dog 24 hours, so it is very important to check for them after they have been outside!!!

Ticks are terrible, I tested positive for Lymes last fall. After 2 months of antibiotics 3 times a day, ( I had it really bad) I felt 90% better. But it has taken me a whole year to feel 100%. The funny thing is I never saw the tick, still have no idea when or WHERE. We make sure our boys get their tick/flea medicine every month too.

Ugh, ticks! I am SO sorry you are dealing with this. This is why I use that darned K9 Advantix religiously. I don't like using meds all the time, but we are in a bad tick area and I don't want that either. I hope Bucher recovers quickly.

Sorry to hear that, but glad to know Bucher is going to be fine!

Thanks for the information, too! Who knows who will be helped by reading your post.
