Why do some people think that Corgis are mixed with other breeds?

So we went to Petsmart this afternoon to get some cat food and dog treats, and we took Tegan with us. They were having adoptions today and I overheard some of the people working it talking about my Tegan and saying she was definitely a Sheltie/ Corgi mix! I just stood their thinking to myself " How could you think my baby is anything other than a Corgi? She is the epitome of a Corgi!" This also happened to my male, Beauregard, when he was a puppy. That time the person was so sure he was a Jack Russell mix and I had to explain to her that "No he isn't a Jack Russell. He is a purebred Corgi." I personally was a little offended, but that's just me... Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Beauregard is a total Corgi!

Tegan is still growing into her corginess, but is still definitely a Corgi!

I understand completely...I always get asked if Penelope (the tri) is a Beagle mix! What part of her looks like a Beagle? All well, I love my Corgis!

We always get asked are they the same as the Queen's dogs and my husband always replies "No they are ours". Often people guess that they are Yorkies!

Some people ask if ours are Welsh Corgis or "the other Corgis." LOL I sometimes explain that there are ONLY Welsh Corgis. Ours are Pembrokes, the "other kind" are Cardigans. Other times I just say "Yep, they are the Welsh kind." To be fair, they are not that common and people are interested, and usually I like to talk about my dogs.

My husband is from England and everyone asks if he's Australian. So between my husband and the dogs, we really can't leave the house with someone asking us where somebody is from. :-)

Shepherd/Dachcshund! LOL I agree, how WOULD that happen. I mean, really.

I get the same questions too. Because Potus has a tail people are always asking if he's a full Corgi or go "Is that a Corgi with a tail?' What else would he be?

Corgi sheltie mix? Absolutely not! Tegan looks all corgi to me and we have had both shelties and corgis! (and still do) Oh well, just feel better in knowing that you have a beautiful corgi and some people cant even tell what time it is much less the difference between a corgi and sheltie. They both are herding dogs, arent they? Next time tell them she is a basset hound and chihuahua mix.

Don't let it get you down. Mine looks as corgi as yours and people are always like, "Is she some kind of shepherd/dachshund mix?!"
Shepherd Dachshun. I don't even know how that would happen.

Next time I should tell them she is half cat, half Corgi :)....Someone else asked my husband if she was a Corgi from Whales? He politely said "Yes" and later on told me he should have told them she was an Argentinian Corgi. :)

I get that a lot around here...I don't think a lot of people know what a corgi is so we get "What kind of mix is he?" I just respond with "He's half German Shepherd half Bunny!" lol

They are both beautiful. I love that pic of Tegan especially...so photogenic!
Non-corgi people will sometimes think Sid is a mix of random genealogy. You should hear the various guesses!
Corgi people sometimes think he's a mix because he's undocked.
