Yoda is an unbelievable fast puppy, not to mention quick with his mouth. What is the most surprising part is his predatory instinct.

Couple weeks ago, when I took him for a walk. We passed an open ditch. Yoda made a really fast move. Before I knew what is going, he had swallowed a cockroach. Yes, a cockroach. He was crunching it and he had a big grin on his face.

Last weekend, I was walking him through the park we always go. He caught a geko (a small white lizard commonly seen in Taiwan). He turned it over and put the head of the geko between his incisors, he was ready to decapitate the lizard. I pulled him away to spare that poor creature's life.

So, does everyone's Corgi shows this strong of a predatory instinct or it is just Yoda?

Unfortuanately, Lilliput is a successful predator. She caught her first bunny with another dog's help while just a pup. Since then, she has moved on to birds, as well as bunnies, and other small rodents. She just hasn't quite figured out the eating part yet. My spaniel knows how to eat a bird, and does it quite well. Lilly sort of plays with them, catch and release and catch again. The good part is that she readily gives up her prey to the human who tells her to "leave it." Now the birds have started dive-bombing her when she's out in the back yard. So it's war.

Elvis is always chasing lizards he likes to slap them around a bit then steps on them for the final blow!

Mine just chase everything. Once in our backyard before I moved the birdfeeder there were two mice and Sparty and Buffy chased them around. Everytime the mice stopped the corgis stopped. It was very funny! Now with the doberman it would be a blood bath because she will catch them!

Loki is more after birds, sets his sights a bit high apparently. So he has not caught anything, yet.

I think Bertie would like to hang a sign outside that says, Bertie Wooster, Squirrel Hunter -- he lives to get those squirrels, although so far, no success. Last night he caught a frog, and immediately spit it out, and then continued to spit and go "bah, bleck, bah bleck" -- so I guess it didn't taste quite like chicken after all.

Brodie is a fly killer. it is hysterical because when he is chasing them he looks like he is chasing nothing at all. I just wish he could get them all. All the Corgis fancy themselvs as Bird predators. They stalk and run after the killdeers along the cornfields when we walk. Fergie is the only one who has been successful. She carried he "kill" around for nearly two hours showing off. Probably will never happen again, but it won't stop them from trying.

Winston chases lizards everyday, has not caught one yet. his favorite thing to do at home is herd our two cats,
good for him they have no front claws.

Coco is frantic about hunting for mice. He loves field of long grass where he digs the heck out of their tunnels, tears out grass and chunks of dirt with his teeth and buries his snout all the way into the hole and makes funny grunting noises like he's trying to scare them out of their network of tunnels. The burrowing critters are the only one's he really seems passionate about though, not bugs. He ends up really dirty and his mouth is always full of dirt caked up in his teeth - it's nasty. Teddy on the other hand, he will eat june bugs (flying beetles), which doesn't bother me at all because then they can't fly at and attach themselves to me (I can't stand them).

Nala used to do it a lot, but has stopped a little. Now she runs and "investigates" or smells more than anything. I have to stop that habit, because that can lead to serious trouble. Here in FL, a snake, possum, a racoon perhaps. When she was a puppy going to potty would lead to wait up to 20-30 mins, while she chased the lizards, or the frogs at night. The "leave it" and "drop it" command are very helpful, but it took a looooooooooooong time for her to understand.

Thanks for saving the gecko, I somehow kind of like them : P . But always be as watchful as you can with whatever Yoda catches. (A roach!!!! I would have cleaned her teeth like 100 times that day!! LOL I am no friend of roaches. But thanks Yoda, one less).
