Corgi and Small Animals?
I have 3 guinea pigs at home and I can't keep my 7month old Corgi near them. I had to fence them up with a playpen because Barney would attempt to 'jump' into their open cage and terrorize them :(
When I carry my piggys he would keep jumping up on me in attempt to bite/grab them, I tried introducing them to him but he kept sniffing and licking them violently that my Guinea pigs feel uncomfortable.
He gets very excited when my pigs start running around their enclosure.
I've seen videos and images of Corgis with small furry animals, anyone with the same experience who can care to give me some advise?
Should I wait for him to mature before I introduce them again since he is a playful puppy now?

I would recommend obedience classes as soon as possible. They will help you with a lot of issues like jumping up and the "leave it" command. We used "leave it" on Frosty around our baby chicks and he would lay there pretending they didn't exist. Please consider an obedience class as soon as possible. For the immediate future, here is an article about teaching the "leave it" command:

Hi Stephanie,
Wash and rinse a can, put 8 pennies in there and duck tape back the lid. Let Barney sniff and lick the piggys, if he display a behavior that is not up to your standard, shake the penny can in front of him, he will back off.
We used to have 6 hedgehogs and 1 russian dwarf hamster, same training, our dogs have respect for the little ones. Good luck!

I do agree with what has been said, BUT Corgis were originally ratters as well as herders and I must say that personally I would not trust mine with anything smaller than a cat, trained or not. That's just me but instinct is a powerful thing and sometimes the best trained dog can give in to that inborn urge to "dispatch" small furry creatures.

Yup, Starting him on obedience class in 2 weeks time. He doesn't understand that his mouthing hurts and don't think I would trust him unsupervised too
Sam, I've tried the sound trick before. Barney eventually figured out that its just a 'sound' and would continue to test our patience haha. It didn't scare him but it sure scare the hell outta my pigs haha

You could also try leashing him around the GP's. Correct him on the leash every time he shows the undesired behavior.

ic, have you tried getting down to his level and shake the can next to his ears? that should break his fixation / whatever he was doing.

He is Soo hyper! What I have is a tin bottle with rocks inside.
Barney is a strange dog.. He would bounce backward when I attempt to shake the bottle near him then bark at me :\
Guess I will reintroduce them again after he completes his basic obedience training

Are you sure he would be afraid of water? He has a habit of digging and playing with his waterdish, that naughty little boy.
But it's another awesome idea! I think I will try that. I would love to see what kind of silly reaction/expression he would give me when I Squirt water at him =x

The purpose of the squirt bottle is to break his fixation / distraction / correction, not as a punishment. Hope it works out for you!
