I talk about our dog a lot. The first question most people ask me is what breed she is. Most of the time when I reply that she is a corgi… I get a blank stare. It is rare that I meet someone who know what a corgi is.

“What is a corgi?”

I have tried to simplify my description of a corgi. My lengthy descriptions…seem to put people to sleep.

This is my new description: Imagine a dachshund, with a fox head, and a bunny butt.

My question to you is this: how do you describe corgis to people?

First I say, "Do you know the Queen's dogs?"  No one does.  Then I say, "Well, they're really cute! They're a herding breed, and they are super smart. They look sort of like a fox." Haha.

Foxes are always a good example.

Since Teddy isn't the "typical " color its harder for me to to describe. When they see him they r confused and think he's a miniature German Shepard lol I always ask. Have u seen the queens dogs? If they know that then the conversation goes more smoothly but if not I always say mix a fox.a dachshund. And put a bunny butt on it and that's a Corgi lol and then I describe their personality: )
Well my neighbors had three basset hounds. So; I see the basset in the body and legs just smaller, a foxy face, and of course the bunny butt. [Can't forget the sweet little butt. :) ] With a Wonderful personality.

I have some friends who laugh at me when I say she is short and long.   For some reason it seems a lot of people in this part of Indiana know about corgis and quite a few have relatives who own them or corgi mixes.

I am actually impressed when I get the question, "is she a cardigan or a pembroke?" Then I can explain the obvious (stubby) difference between the two.  It's fun to live with a conversation piece.

I just pull out my phone which has about 80 pictures of her on it :)
That's me too, Jen!

That is the best way!

Oh look at that smiley face!!
Why didn't I think of that? Right On Jen! I have more photos of my corgi; than I do of my children on my phone.

Well, if they can see Sidney, I just say "They are awesome! Smart, loving and really funny! They are herding dogs, they are big dogs on short legs and they LOVE to eat"

If they can't see him and I need to describe what a corgi looks like, I either describe him as a short-legged fox or I say "short legs, pointy ears, kinda like a sawed-off German shepherd" :p

They shed like little demons, are stubborn, too smart for their own good, barky, and would eat til they blow up. Remember, we don't want the general public to know how great they really are!!! If we do, too many money grubbing puppy mills and poorly informed backyard breeders will ruin the breed.
