I was in a pet store today and saw a bag of Chicken Soup For the Dog Lover's Soul Dry Dog Food. Our breeder feeds this! Mac ate it as a pup and did well on it. The store most convenient to us doesn't stock it, though, so we soon switched him to Canidae, which we also love.
I should try it! Lola has has a HORRIBLE case of diarrhea this past week. We had to switch her food... she has eaten Science Diet since she was a pup, then when she turned 1 we moved her to adult Science Diet... when we went to the store to get more, we found that Science Diet changed their recipe. So needless to say, she hasn't been doing too well :( We just got her some anti-biotics to help her out, so once she gets back on track, I might have to try this stuff out! I saw it at our local store, but thought it might be all hype with the name...
Thanks so much!!! I've been feeding her a bland diet (boiled chicken, rice, boiled potatoes), but it hasn't helped much. We'll do more research on food this time!!!
Chicken Soup...is in the top 10% of foods for quality ingredients. The adult-formula is listed as a 4-Star food on the website which Julia mentioned. The puppy-formula is rated 5-stars, making it an excellent choice.

I am just blown away by this! It costs the same as Purina Pro Plan which doesn't even come close to having the same quality ingredients. I really wish I hadn't just bought a 35 lb bag of it! I'm definitley switching after she's done.
If you are anxious to start the new brand sooner you could always donate the ProPlan to your local animal shelter.

If they make a senior formula I might try it for the two old men.
Kate, I have a friend that feeds this to her dogs. Her dogs look great! Ingredients look good. Do not follow the guidelines on the bag. Most adult corgis at a good weight maintain well at 1/2 cup morning and evening.
IMO i would try to feed a higher star rated food from dogfoodanaylsis.com. We started Mochi on Orijen last night. She loved it. But if you cant afford the higher quality stuff this seems pretty good. It's good that the 1st 2 ingredients is just chicken or turkey, i would stay away if it listed the chicken meal first. The less processed the better.
I think foods like Orijen are great for very active, athletic dogs. For puppies and "couch potato" dogs, they are much too rich in protein. That is true of all the 6-Star foods on the dogfoodanalysis website. When I get Charlie into Agility or Flyball, I may switch him to one of the 6-Star foods like Orijen. Right now I'm selecting from the 5-Star list, which I believe is very well-balanced for the "average" dog.

I also do like to see "meal" (chicken meal, turkey meal, beef meal, etc) on ingredient list. Not to be confused with bi-products. Whole meat is 80% water, so listing a whole meat as the first ingredient(s) can be misleading. After the water is evaporated in dry kibble, you're down to only 20% of the original ingredient weight, so the food may have a lot less meat protein than you think. Meal products are dried, then added, so 100% of the weight is meat protein in the kibble. Anyway, not arguing or saying one is right, one is wrong, as much as bringing it up as a good topic for debate/discussion. I certainly understand your point about less processing, and starting with meal vs whole meat does essentially mean "double" cooking.
I agree with Charlie. Chicken Soup food is still affordable also for your basic needs of the corgi. Many of the higher end dog foods are totally awesome but way out of many people's price ranges! Good food for the price.
