I was in a pet store today and saw a bag of Chicken Soup For the Dog Lover's Soul Dry Dog Food. As I am ALWAYS looking at different brands of food I decided to look (not really thinking it would be worth anything). I was SHOCKED. Has anyone used this brand before? What do you think of it? Its the Chicken by-product Meal you have you look for in the food. That's the bad stuff.
Be careful with this one, the ocean fish meal is preserved with ethoxyquin, which is a suspected carcinogen and is banned for most uses in human food. Check out this web site: www.dogfoodanalysis.com, it gives a review of many different dog foods and lets you know in their reviews if there is anything bad about the food and points out the good qualities.
Actually it isn't anymore. If you read further on on that website it explains that the company no longer uses ethoxyquin.
Ah, sorry, just saw it in the main review a while back.
Jason, my appologies that came off a bit harsh. It's a confusing review because they post amendments below it. At first I didn't see them either! Anyways, I didn't mean to be snappy with you. Thanks for the heads up though!
Yep, like Kate mentioned, the bottom of the editorial says that the manufacturer has provided a written guarantee of the food being ethoxyquin-free (dated 2006).
I looked for it at Petco today and did not find it. Which stores carry it?
I found it at a local grooming shop. I tried to look it up on their dealer finder under San Diego. I found like 30 places so I figured rather than post them all here I would just give you the link: http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/dealer_locator/
Hey, the place where we buy the puppy's Wellness brand is on the list! Perfect! Thanks for the link Kate.
I did buy this for Lola & she likes it so far!!! Plus, her diarrhea cleared up (she was taking meds too though!).
