I was wondering if any other corgis had Pancreatitis?

My 1 yr old corgi (who is in good shape-not overweight-exercises every day) just got diagnosed with it.

I had a choice between hospitalizing him or going home and giving him the meds and IV at home which is half the cost. I'm doing the home treatment since the doctor suggested it.But there's a lot to do!

Just wondering if anyone had to go through it? I've been crying for the last few hours because he just seemed so sick. I suppose it's a little better than having something lodged in his stomach/intestine because they don't need to operate, but it's so sad to see your baby so distraught.

Im so sorry you are going through this, wish I had some advice on this but I dont.  I know exactly how you are feeling, so hard when they are feeling so poorly.  Lance has just been diagnosed with auto immune issues.  hugs
Thanks. Who knew how bad you would feel when they are not themselves.

I am so sorry, we had Bella tested for this when she was sick a couple months ago and also for a blockage and anything else it could have been. We still don't know what it was but she is well again. I know the feeling but at least you know and can fix it :)  It is better than many things but still hard to see them go through this but she gets to be home with you and having you do this instead of someone else or having to stay at the vet:) Hang in there!!!!!!

Yeah, Rufus got xrayed also so see if there was anything lodged inside, but it was definitely pancreatitis. I'm glad Bella is doing better. and yes, at least he will be back to himself in a couple weeks!
It may be better to have the vet take care of him for at least the first few days. Pancreatitis can be very serious and as you said, very labor intensive. Main thing to remember is NO FOOD! I know its hard but the pancreas needs time to heal itself. IV fluids would be ideal and if nothing else I'd have your vet recheck tomorrow to make sure there is some improvement. What caused it? Did he get into anything he shouldn't have? It usually takes 3 days to develop, so did he eat any really greasy/rich food 3 days ago? Poor thing, good luck!

I wish I could have them take care of him. But it was a difference between $500 and $1500(at the least). They are also closed Sunday so half the weekend they couldn't do anything to him. =(

He woke up this morning and seems a lot more like himself, although he cries next to his water bowl since he's not allowed water for a couple days...I don't know what caused it, they think he probably found something he shouldn't have. But let's just hope a weekend of IV's and his meds will start making him feel better!

Yay! So glad to hear he is doing better! I'm really glad they gave you the option to take him home! Sounds like a good vet, as many vets probably wouldn't place an IV and send him home, which would mean he may not have gotten the care he needed. Kudos to your vet!!! And kudos to you for taking such good care of your boy!!! Hopefully he will be back to his old self in no time and  you won't ever have to deal with this again!

Thanks! Yeah he actually didn't go home with an IV in him, I have to inject him for 10 minutes a day for a week under his skin...but it's nice they gave me that financial option and reassuring me he should do better either way. I can't wait until he can eat and drink again! He'll be a happy doggy.

I'm so sorry to hear that your baby is sick :-( I wish you both the best of luck, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery!
