Whether it be home-made dog biscuits or sneaky gobbles of human food, what treats do your companions enjoy?

I know Ace likes to munch on slices of apples during this blistering summer!

Also welcome: fun stories regarding treats and snacks, dinner time, suggestions for other users, etc.

Corgis love to eat, but I understand that they can be EXTREMELY picky when it comes to snacks and foods! I was looking for healthy ideas for my own pooch (and I'm sure other users would enjoy the advice).

My eskimo dog loves to clean up after my 3 1/2 year old.  Aside from that, though, it's frozen green beans.  He will do anything for frozen green beans!
Emmy loves cucumbers!!!
After reading some of the posts we bought Bella some fresh green beans and she LOVES them! :) ice cubes have always been a favorite too!!
My two LOVE strawberry yogurt that I put in ice trays and freeze. Pop out a cube for a cold snack after a long got walk. I also received a sample of treats from our local feed store that they love called yummie chummies. Its got salmon in it and they can't get enough.

Ein LOVES carrots, almonds, apples, and ice cubes. She really knows how to work that puppy face. She'll rest her chin on my husbands lap and look straight up into his eyes... She doesn't even look at the food once. LOL. She knows where it comes from, and that tactic works on him EVERY TIME... And he was the one who told me that we were NOT under any circumstances going to hand feed them people food. If we were going to be feeding them people food treats and snacks it all has to go in the food bowls. Her big brown eyes looking up into his changed his tune real quick. LOL

I on the other hand have always hand fed snacks, so she doesn't even bother trying to butter me up like she does him. Man corgis are smart little dogs.

I mix together some plain yogurt with canned pumpkin and freeze it, he LOVES it.  I also tried baking sweet potato chips, he'll lay and munch on those until every crumb is gone.  He'll eat frozen green beans, but it takes him quite some time, he'll play with it.  I'm freezing half chicken broth/half water with some kibble inside right now, we'll see how he likes those!

Mine are TRUE Corgis.  They are happy to eat anything!

I often use their own kibble as treats.  I use it in dog training.  They don't care.  It's FOOD!

However, I do give them baby carrots as treats.  When they hear that I am in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator, they come running.  I guess I better buy some frozen green beans after reading the other posts.

Peanut butter has been a favorite treat around here recently.  One of my Corgis has allergies that cause her problems at this time of year.  She started on meds from the vet last week for the itching.  I stick the pill in a glob of peanut butter on the end of a spoon and she licks it right up.

I avoid ICE, however.  Years ago I met a veterinarian from the University of Illinois vet school.  She specialized in dental care for dogs.  She told me she gets a lot of business from people giving ice to their dogs.    She explained that the extreme cold makes the teeth brittle and when the dog continues to bite down on the ice they can crack a tooth.  She said at that point the tooth needs to either be filed down, extracted, or crowned.  I never knew that they put crowns on a dogs tooth until she told me that.  She advised me not to give ice to my dogs.  Other people have given them ice when we are at the park and they love it.  If they are small pieces I don't say anything.

Wow I've never heard that about ice before! I'll have to be more careful with that from now on!
Rex loves bananas and green beans. He also loves it when I spread some peanut butter on a dog biscuit, stick it in the freezer for awhile then give it to him. He loves those as a frozen treat.
Those frozen peanut butter dog biscuits sound like a great idea.  Thanks.
Al & Gwynn like money. Fresh, crisp $20 bills. And shares in blue-chip stocks (of which we have so many).
I wish Lucy were a little more picky! For daily good behavior, basic training treats I use Zukes brand (chicken or peanut butter). For obedience class and more concentrated training, I have used small pieces of cheese (baby swiss on one occasion) and small slices of cooked hot dog--the hot dog lure helped her learn the verbal and hand signal "down" very quickly! Other than training, I never give her human food. Only quality dog food. If I do, on rare occasion, treat her, it's with a small portion of cooked ground beef--but only if she has done something she needed to do (like going potty when/where she was supposed to--Lucy's a puppy). I never feed her these extras from my hand, but put them in her bowl after she sits. She also likes ice cubes--and she does chew on them as well as chase them around on the floor!
