Question about my corgi?
So I always thought my sweet Penelope was a Pembroke until I went to bring her to get her shots and the vet said that she was a Cardigan because she had a tail. The woman that I got her from told me that she chose not to dock Penelope and her siblings' tails. She said something about it becoming more popular nowadays. Now I'm totally confused?
I know some Pembrokes are born without tails and most who do have tails get them docked. What do you guys think Penelope is? To me, it doesn't matter because she's still my adorable little corgi, but I just wanted to hear some insight.

Looks to me like you have a spectacular tri pem puppy. Enjoy her! It's not the tail that defines the breed. Cardigans and Pembrokes are separate breeds, with different body types, heads, ears, et. al. Your baby looks 100% Pembroke, based on the shape of the head, ears, and I'm sure if you posted a photo of Penelope standing on all fours from her side, we could all see that her body is that of a Pembroke. Cardigans have larger, distinct bodies. Penelope is a beautiful Pembroke. Trust the breeder. Vets aren't necessarily experts on Corgis. Many people assume that a corgi with a tail is a cardigan, w/o a tail a pembroke. More and more breeders are not docking Pembrokes' tails, for many reasons, incl. feeling it's more humane or legislated in their country.

What a cutie!!We have 2 corgis (Pems) and each style of tails.Our girl Keri is a natural doc and our male Merlin is a "people" doc.Check out the links to read about how some breeders bred Corgis and Boxers to rectify the tail issues.Pretty interesting :)

@Michele - I felt the same as you. I assumed if a Pem was born with a tail that it was just a larger nub. I had no idea how thick and fox-like they are, with the white tip. I have only seen Pems with tails in photos.

Haha, Geri. He certainly is making a statement, but I have no clue what it might be. When we first got Ricky/R, Lucy refused to frap or fight with him. She just snarled and made ugly faces. Eventually The Rafanator wore her down and she frapped and fought with him. You could always tell who was enjoying it more bec. RRs little nub would go a mile a minute from joy. Lucy's has no nub to speak of so it's harder to see if it's wiggling, but I doubt it. When we play fetch, which she loves (but only when RR is not around) her nub stands up when she's happy. So I imagine she's happier playing fetch with me, than playing around with her "brother." Seems to me that Sidney's tail being straight up might be similar to Lucy's nub standing up when we're playing...a happy sign of excitement and anticipation. Just a wild stab at what Sidney's saying, but what do I know?

Yes it was! We belong to the San Diego Corgi Meetup Group, and on our big monthly meetups we get in the area of 50-60 corgis! It's heaven!

The ears are are correct. Without getting the breed standard, she looks like my two. My vet claaed Belle a Akita the first visit. I love my bunny butts.

Our pemmie has a tail too :) It curls kind of like a huskies tail would. We asked the breeder not to dock it :D
