Fly Herding

My newly adopted 3 y/o Corgi named Winnie is a bundle of energy. We take 3 walks a day and I play soccer with her using a beach ball. Still she has tons of energy and needs a way to burn it: SOOO, she's invented a game of chasing flies in the backyard lawn. I have no livestock for her to herd and her lazy Sheltie brother does not like to play. Typical of a herding dog---if there's nothing there to herd they'll find it. Many will round up ducks, preschool kids, cats or other dogs. I feel guilty at not working her hard enough but I'm a 66 y/o widower and have only so much pep (bet you young whippersnappers never heard of "pep" HA!). So when Hollywood needs a "FLY WRANGLER" for a movie Winnie will be ready for the audition.

That is to funny! My cats chase flys but Teddy tries to eat them lol I bet we all can relate to the high energy this breed has, I mean I take Teddy to the lake for about four hrs to play with other dogs and he swims but he still wants to play when we get home

Get em Winnie!! We have had Tucker for five months now and I saw him catch a fly in mid air..and it dropped to the ground, I wouldn't let him eat it!! Even funnier Winnie likes to herd them.

This is one of my favorite things that the dogs do! It makes me laugh every time, and it keeps them busy far longer than anything else.

My Luna herds flies too! I thought she was nuts the first time I saw her do it! (I couldn't see the fly)

I have seen a corgi herd the into bug screen on the window and eat them! It is the funniest thing.

LOL just yesterday my Jack was herding a fly in the house, first time I have seen him do this! He and his mama Katie like to herd the chickens when they come over the fence into the back yard, that is just a hoot:) My 11 year old English Setter (Squirt) doesn't herd but he hunts down, locks on and then pounces and eats grasshoppers when they jump. Right now is prime "hopper season".....such entertainment!
