Poor Clutch. My only thought is to carry him and if someone else is going with you, for them to hold him on their lap so he doesn't move. Or if you have a crate, transport him in that. Please let me know what the vet says.

If it is a foot, just pick him up and carry him. I've been through a broken foot TWICE with Franklin. Its NO FUN! Hope its just a strain! Keep us posted!

Thank you both. My boyfriend ended up driving there while I sat in the back with Clutch and a bunch of blankets. His vet is about 50 min. away from us but Clutch didn't do too bad in the car.

 

Lucky for us his foot isn't broken! However, it is quite swollen and hurts him so. The vet gave him a shot to take away some of the pain and we got some pills to help him for the next week or so. We are supposed to take it easy for the next four or five weeks (and not go on any walks for at least three weeks!). 

 

We don't quite know how it happened even though we were both watching him when it did. He was trying to jump onto the bed (he does all the time) but somehow missed and hit the bed with his belly. We think he may have caught his back left foot on a metal bar that sticks out from under the mattress. Whatever happened we are getting him a set of steps for the bed now in hopes that we can prevent it from ever happening again.

 

I think Clutch just wants today to be over. He seems to want to be left by himself. I made him two beds in the living room and added a snuggle blanket to his crate and he just hid under the side table. He is at the far end of the house now sitting by the front door wanting nothing to do with us. I have the feeling that if I try to go talk to him I would just be running him out of his safe spot so I will leave him be for now.

 

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do to keep him calm and comfortable for the next few weeks we would love to hear them.

Glad it isn't broken. Whew. You all are going to have a long few weeks. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery.

We have to keep Tucker quiet for the next two weeks as he was just seen by the vet for a strain in his back leg.  We are keeping him gated in the kitchen with his bed so that he can rest quietly, so he doesn't start running around with our other corgi.  We are on day one and I'm sure this is going to be a challenge!! 

Another thing  you can do is feed Clutch out of a Kong or put treats in a kong during the day to keep him busy at times.  You could also keep him on leash near you, when possible or to have him snuggle with you while watching tv at night.  I hope these suggestions help!! 

I took the opportunity this afternoon to give him a much needed brushing, I think i may be doing that everyday for the next two weeks for a little bit each day.

HI Brittani,  Glad to hear his foot's not broken.  I am also glad you shared how it happened...we can't keep our 2 off the bed (I suppose we could, but they are so darn cute).  And I really didn't think too much about them hurting themselves because they jump up with ease.  I may have to consider doggie stairs after hearing your story!

OH shoot that would suck. My Max had a broken foot and had a really lovely green cast, and he went pitter patter pitter CLUMP....hahahah

Poor guy.  Sounds like he's embarrased.  Hope he feels better soon!  We bought a ramp for our daughter's bed that the dogs can zoom up and down...poor Jackson just couldn't do the jumps with his leg, and with Seanna's bad leg, it's not advisable anyway.  We got it on Foster and Smith website, and I think it was only like $50....

Oh,poor baby!  My dogs like to  stay away from people also when they're not feeling well. Just let him cope in his own way.

If they splint it find out how to make sure the splint isn't too tight -- consequences of that could be much worse than a broken foot.  Someone here recently had that adventure. 

Yes, you want steps to the bed and enforce their use.
