About leaving the house just to run errands? Leaving the babies at home without anyone there? I hate to leave the house. They are so glad to see me when I return that I drop everthing and start to play right away.

I do and I don't. I do because it has to be boring, but then I think about how he doesn't do anything anyhow, and I think about the fact that he gets excited to see me when I come home, and I feel way less bad-because he never gets excited about anything when we are just here all the time-well, except peanut butter:P It motivates him to get up off the couch and run around the house some!

Honestly?  I really don't.  When I just had one dog I felt a bit worse, but they are here to keep each other company.  Since Jack was a puppy, and since we got Maddie, they get a treat every time we are leaving the property, and so when they see us get our coats on they get very happy.  One day, I was off work and my husband put on his jacket and finished talking to me about something.  Jack was in the kitchen, and started barking to tell my husband to hurry up and go!

Even when I'm home, they seem to sleep most of the day.  I don't know about you, but I like my alone time and sometimes I think they like it too.  They get to sleep undisturbed without wondering what we are up to, and they each get their own couch to nap on.

Now, when we go on vacation and board them, I do start to miss them after a couple days.

When we leave for work, I don't feel guilty and I know Noodles doesn't care because he gets a yummy treat before we leave. I do feel bad if we have to be gone on either Saturday or Sunday because those are the only days home with him. Thankfully I'm a home body, so Noodles is with me the majority of the weekend and my husband leaves to do his thing Saturday nights. If I'm running errands, Noodles comes with me as long as I'm not going to be away from the car for a while (or if it is too warm outside). The worst is during the summer when I'm running errands and I can't take him with me because of the heat...he gives me such a sad look that it breaks my heart. I know Noodles sleeps and he moves to a position by the window when he hears one of our cars pull in to the driveway. First thing though when I walk in the door, is paying attention to him. He gives me a howl, stretches on my legs and gives me kisses. I love coming home to him! (but I still wish I could bring him to work with me every day. He has come a few times, but not recently.)

I don't, and I will feel even less guilty about it when Ace has a corgi-pal of his own (probably some time later this year). I did my very best to rid him of any separation anxiety from the get go, in order to not be crippled by a panicky dog when it comes to necessary events to attend. I almost never leave the flat without him anyway, but I do like knowing that when I do, he won't explode.

This hasn't stopped me from ragging on my husband about getting another corgi, though. :D

I hated being apart from my pups so much (not guilty, I just like being around them) that I moved to rural CT from Manhattan, got a remote job so I could work from home, and they go everywhere I go when I'm not working.  When people see my car around town, they always check the backseat to say hello to my guys.  Et voila!  Separation problem solved in an obsessive corgi disorder kind of way. ha!

I feel bad when I am gone longer than normal, since we crate them. If we happen to go out to dinner after working all day, I like to get home as soon as we can so they can get out of their crates. (We do let them out for potty before we leave of course.) If they have been crated for more cumulative time than normal, we usually make up for it by letting them sleep in the bed with us, which they love, of course!

No, I have to say I don't feel guilty when I need to run errands or do other things.   Sometimes I do feel bad if we have a family party and we will be gone for an extra long time, although when we get back they are happy that we are just home, they snuggle up with us, which is nice after a long exhausting day of being away from the house.

I do feel bad when I take one dog on a walk and the other is left behind, although when I get back with one, I take the other, so I shouldn't feel bad.  Before we had two dogs, and a neighbor and myself were going to take the dogs for a walk, she says well I can't take one without the other, I honestly didn't understand what she meant, I do now though!!!!  I would walk both of mine together if it was possible, but its just not.  Tucker is a very calm relaxed walker and Lance tends to get over excited at some point in his walk, so better off giving Lance the one on one attention and this way he doesn't put any thoughts into Tuckers head about walking!!

this post has really eased my mind about the situation i'll be in whenever i get my corgi. i'm hoping to get my corgi this summer when i'm not in school so i can give him the extra time he/she needs in those early puppy days with training and housebreaking. what i'm worried about is when school starts back up again. i'm a full time student and i work part time, but part time where i work still means 5 days a week. i will probably only have a few hours between classes and work to play with him, and i was worried how well he would handle it. I have a roommate so i'm hoping she'll give my dog some loving when i'm not home (she just goes to school, she doesn't work). i really want to put him in a crate when both of us will be away because i will have a little more peace of mind of what he won't be doing while i'm away (my roommate said she was cool with me getting a dog as long as he doesn't chew anything or pee anywhere). i was feeling guilty about the idea of keeping him in a crate while away, but i spoke to a friend at work who works full time and is also a full time student. she said she keeps her dog in his crate while she's away and he mostly sleeps all day (and apparently loves his crate) and she keeps him out and lets him sleep with her when she's home, so i guess it's not so bad.

where do you guys take your dogs on errands that are pet friendly? (besides petsmart and such) I know my work allows dogs to come in the store but not if you're an employee. i work in retail so there's no way i could keep an eye on him or have a place for him to stay at work.

I don't feel guilty when I leave Mishka at home to run errands - it's his only real "alone" time (he comes to work with me).  It's important to keep alone time in the routine so he stays calm about it when being alone for a few hours is unavoidable.

It is interesting how our society's thoughts about dogs have changed. I grew up with dogs and no one ever thought twice about leaving them alone all day. Walking the dog was not something you did except to take it out to relieve itself if you didn't have a yard. Until recently when I have been able to work from home, my dogs were home without people all day, and were very seldom walked and were not ever taken anywhere except the vet. I do not believe my dogs ever suffered from my lack of thoughtfulness. That was their life. they didn't know any thing except that they were loved, played with and well cared for. They were allowed to be in the house, unlike outdoor dogs (don't know why people have those). I would hate to think of someone not getting a dog because they are not able to spend lots of time with it, or take it for long walks. Dogs are such a blessing for children, the lonely, the ill, the elderly and all the rest of us. Thank Dog for corgies and all our other fur friends.

Oh, and our dogs go nuts whenever anyone comes in the door, whether the house was empty or full at the time. It's hard to feel like the special person in their life when they will leave me for the next entrant! LOL.

I don't feel guilty, I just love my dog and always want to be around him but I'm not gonna feel bad for living my life haha. I take Mason almost everywhere though, and I'm out of school now so we spend lots of time together :)

I have no guilt leaving them alone for a few hours. They probably welcome their alone time!
