Okay, well.. Today I had the biggest scare. It wasn't about Ziggy, it was with my Skittles. Hubby sprayed our table with cleaning solution and left the room to go get a wipe up rag. I was speaking with him, so I was faced away. I turn back just in time to see Skittles licking up the cleaning solution and smacking it down.

I got so scared that I couldn't even do anything except call for hubby, who grabbed Skittles up and wound up having to force water down his throat, trying to dilute and hopefully just override any side effects. Well, here I am having a freak out, crying, looking for a number for the company to call, then when they failed to answer, a vet to call.. Well.. Turns out that the cleaner he licked up and swallowed is non toxic. Can't harm pets or people.

I highly reccomend it. It's called Simple Green and a VERY large supply of it can be bought at Costco for $10. (It comes in concentrate, but it comes with a bottle already full and raedy to use also.) It can be used for mopping floors, shampooing carpets, counters, all that good stuff. Best part? It smells minty-kinda. Not like normal mint, but mmmmmmmmm. It is amazing. (In fact the awesome smell is probably what made Skittles give it a lick, but watch your pets and it will be okay, and even if you don't.. They won't get hurt:D)

I have always been very freaked out over cleaning products in general, but I am very happy that I don't have to be anymore. Not to say I am going to allow Skittles to drink it or nom it up on a regular basis.

Excellent reminder!   I recommend this instead of Lysol for disinfecting:

According to the MSDS on them, you can actually eat them.  The disinfectant is thyme extract.

For general cleaning, I frequently use vinegar and water, 50/50.   We do use Simple Green for outdoor things, like the deck railings.

Here's the MSDS on Simple Green:

I switched to all natural products for the same reason, and because it's better for us too.  Glad that Ziggy is OK...I know the fear!

I too use either Simple Green, or a water white vinegar mix.  What I wanted to add is that it's useful to have  handy the ASPCA Poison Control Center 24 hrs. number  (888) 426-4435.  There is a charge of $65 for this service.  I keep this number in my Pet First Aid book, which I highly recommend.  The book is called "Pet First Aid" By Bobbie Mammato DVM, MPH and is a joint venture of the American Red Cross and the Humane Society of the United States.  The book is not expensive and I have made a gift of it to many friends and family members.  Here is the link:

I use all environmentally friendly products which are also non toxic:) I mainly use vinegar but also use Hydrogen Peroxide for many things also from laundry to disinfecting sinks...it's also suppose to work for fleas but luckily I haven't had to try it for that

I always think how strong the chemical cleaners must smell to our little ones that are close to the floor...I can't stand the smell I'm sure it's not good for them to smell either.

Simple green is my all purpose cleaner, too. started using it when I had little kids and saw no reason to quit.
