I was wondering whether I should clip Napolean's nails every month, week, or any other time. Do I clip every time he takes a bath (once every 1-3 months)? Is the schedule for cleaning your dog's ears different from clipping nails? Do you use a a formula for cleaning your dog's ears?

I need some input on the routines you have with your corgis so I know I'm doing the right thing with Napolean :)

Yea, I hardly bathe Napolean either. I guess dog's nails do grow at different paces.

Ha. Well will wait and see :P I might have to get some ear cleaning treatment for Napolean since I haven't cleaned them in like a year!

I never brush either but I do need to get him some chews to keep the tartar off.

Chepstow NEEDS his nails done every 2 weeks.  Tenby only needs his done once a month.  Guess they are like people some of us have fast growing nails others don't.

Exactly. You just have to sort of figure out a schedule :)

@ Joan - The worst part of the UPS misadventure was when I realized I had run over something in my driveway. I heard a thud against my tires and was terrified that one of my dogs had gotten out. I was actually relieved it was just a package and I'm confident that UPS will have to make good on it.

How are you guys doing? Did you go to the PWCC of SC fun day this year?

Jack does Lucy and RR's nails every 2 wks. Lucy is 6 now, and her nails grow much slower, so she requires less frequent nail work. Proper nail work is important to keep the paws tight and not get splayed. He brushes their teeth weekly. RR has super white choppers. People actually compliment his teeth. haha. Ears are a part of the regular grooming. Our dogs rarely need/get baths.

PS Neither of mine made any use the antlers. Good thing we only bought 2!

see the FAQ.  I use the pliers-guillotine type, backwards (cuts with-the-grain), just a tiny cut once a week or two, or as-needed.  I mark it on the calendar.  I often forget, so it goes longer intervals.  It is much easier to cut nails when they are wet and soft.

I'm spitting mad. UPS throws packages over my gate and I just ran over a whole box of KV Vet supplies. Over $200 worth of products strewn across my driveway. Grrrrrrrrr. They will hear from me. We Leos so love to >>ROAR.

Wow really?? Way to put the package in such an convenient place! Are they not suppose to put packages on the door step or at least to the side of the gate?? You should get a refund.

@John - btw, at a quick glance i thought your reply was going to be some kind of gallows humor. i was a little disappointed that it was a "straight" answer.

Yea. Before, I hadn't cut Napolean's nails in a loong time. I took him a semi-warm bath before allowing him to file down his nails on a piece of sandpaper (he is terrified of the nail clippers and unfortunately I'm not so confident using them). Okay. I'll probably cut the nails when they seem much too long.

Juno's nails grow pretty fast so i try to cut them once a week. His ear...the last time he was at the vet it was clean but i still try to clean it once every other week.

Oh okay. Is it okay to just clean down the ear with a cotton ball or swab soaked in water??
