Hello, my puppy Zorro is a little over three months old now. He's not SUPER food motivated, but he definitely doesn't turn any down. When we first got Zorro he would start getting hyped up and barking at me when I was putting food in his dish. To stop that I would have him sit before I put the food down, and then make him stay until I said okay (which was maybe five seconds). I never disciplined him at all to stop barking, I just started the sit and wait method. It worked fantastic, within a day or two he stopped barking. At first it seemed like a fun game to him, he would sit patiently and when I said okay he would hop up and eat. After a week though  he started being apprehensive towards his food. Now when I'm feeding him I have to really encourage him to come over next to his dish and when I tell him okay he slowly will start to eat. I feel like I've broken his spirit and now I feel bad :( Has anybody else had this problem or is it normal?

Is he on any medicine? Indy wouldn't eat after he was given his general dewormer. He stared at the food and when coaxed, would eat a few bites and wander off. He was pitiful!

I'm not sure why just sitting and waiting would break his spirit so much. It's not like you were yelling at him or bopping his nose. Perhaps there is something else going on internally?

Hmmm, I suppose it's possible it happened after he got his second set of puppy shots. I noticed they did make him a bit sensitive, and he could have associated it with being fed somehow...I'm bringing him to the vet next week, I will have to mention it to them. Thanks!

Indy didn't eat the day of his 2nd set of shots either. I figured it was just because he was so sleepy. He was very sore and slept the entire day. Maybe that's it! I hope he gets to feeling better about feeding time. I know I get excited about mine.... :)

My dogs have to sit and down several times before the bowl goes down. It is part of NILIF. I think it gets them more excited about eating, not less.

He's a little young or I would say he's teethimg. Maybe try a bit of warm water on it incase he's starting early.

Hi ! My Puppy his having the same Feeding blues. The first 2 week that we got him he was super happy to get his food he would sit and then eat , now i'm having a little trouble. It might be the metal bowl though because when i put the food on the ground he does eat it !  you could try with little Zorro !

Good luck !
